Re: Newsgroups
are you sure it isn't set to ssl, Secure(SSL) in the error msg suggests it is.

Your "From" header is, of course, where you put your email address, Paul. Maybe you haven't set an address that OE can recognise as a valid one.
Be careful with this. Use a 'throwaway' address (i.e. something like a Hotmail or Yahoo address set up for the purpose), or 'munge' the address: i.e. change it so that a human being can decipher the real address, but a program can't.
The reason for this is that spammers trawl newsgroups looking for valid email addresses to add to their lists - any email address posted on Usenet is likely to get spammed. They do this with 'bots' - programs designed for this. Thus any address is added as listed - they don't have time to go through the lists and decipher munged ones themselves.

fake emails shouldn't have caused it. John@john.com always works for me. Erm, sorry to John there.

Re: Newsgroups
I would suspect that it was the format, rather than the nature of the address that caused the problem: eg, spaces in the name, etc.

Re: Newsgroups
Has anyone else noticed just how slow NTL's newsgroup servers have become since the 10Mb upgrades started? Is this just coincidence or are users thrashing them for their binary downloads?

Re: Newsgroups
Yes its got very intermittant, times out a lot and cannot even supply 3 meg here - looks like the future
I'm really beginning to think this 10 meg roll out is a big mistake, NTL don't seem to have the network to cope with it, I don't even have 10mb but I can't even get 3 now at peak times, so my service has got a lot worse
I hope they can sort this, it all looks like a step backward from here..
