I rang them tonight with interesting results
First call sounded like it was someone from Indian Call Center, Basically explained problems on here only to be told it was a fault in my area and fix time around 7-8pm
2nd Call was very helpful a Lady called Sarah,i talked through my BB problems again she told same as first call but added the fault was only raised to them at 3pm this afternoon. I asked about a fixed time but she didn't have any. To my amazement she was about to give me the server status line but i told her that no fault was on there about this as i checked beforehand to which she was very surprised about.
is there anyone else in the CV2 area finding it difficult tonight like i am?

Re: Tech Support

Found this on service status page, covering coventry:
On the morning of Wednesday the 23rd of November between midnight and 6 AM,

Network optimisation will result in a loss of service in Colchester, Wardley, Shepshed, Ashton, Wearside, Waltham Park, Cheshunt, Mansfield, Bishopbriggs, Coventry and the surrounding areas.

On the morning of Thursday the 24th of November between midnight and 6 AM,

Network optimisation will result in a loss of service in Wardley, Shepshed, Cambridge, Belfast, Baguley, Brighton, Cheshunt, Mansfield, Hartlepool, Clifton, Grimsby, Northampton, Canniesburn, Coventry and the surrounding areas.

All still listed as ongoing, so the dates don't seem to indicate when the work will be completed, sorry

this is a question to atlantis or anyone else, i get sometimes an error on the little icon where it dhows you being connected, it says 'accquring network address' what does it mean?
Does it mean however that it is a fault in my area or not?

If you have an ethernet connection then it sounds like XP is waiting for an IP address from your modem. With you having intermittent access, it could be slowing down the process when otherwise you would never notice it happening.
