Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
Im in Stafford using a NTL 200 modem. Upgraded yesterday and these are my results :
Fri, 25 Nov 2005 22:06:22 UTC
1st 512K took 922 ms = 568642 KB/sec, approx 4686 Kbps, 4.58 Mbps
2nd 512K took 859 ms = 610347 KB/sec, approx 5029 Kbps, 4.91 Mbps
3rd 512K took 875 ms = 599186 KB/sec, approx 4937 Kbps, 4.82 Mbps
4th 512K took 875 ms = 599186 KB/sec, approx 4793 Kbps, 4.68 Mbps
Overall Average Speed = approx 4861 Kbps, 4.75 Mbps
Haven't got anything over 5mbps yet. No idea why.....Is the 200 modem ok to use with the upgrade ? Could it be something to do with my area and NTL not optimizing it for the 10mb yet ? Any info appreciated

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
Hi.
I have done a search of this thread, but cannot find the answer to my question. I know there is a monthly limit of 75GB on 10Mb, but is there a daily limit (like there is on the other tiers 1GB) of how much you can download?

The original daily download limit of 1GB was changed to a 30GB/month usage allowance (upload + download).

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
I apologise in advance for not reading through all the previous pages to this topic but search isn't quite as specific as you need it to be sometimes and I need a relatively quick answer so I'm posting this before I go out. I know when the upgrades in the past were moving 1Mb upto 1.5Mb and then 3Mb were brought in they did it in phases gradually but you could phone up to have your speed upgraded before your area was scheduled and NTL would do that.
The question is pretty much along those lines, I'm on the 3Mb service right now and after rebooting the modem last night to make sure, I'm still only on 3Mb but I know there are members from one of the other thread posting from the Middlesbrough area and are on 10Mb now. If I phone NTL and ask to be upgraded to 10Mb now will it happen or is it different this time and you have to wait for your area to be upgraded? Thanks

you can either phone up or you can use the tier migration page which may be available for you.

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
Hmmm.... Well no luck in the lottery for me, despite having the firmware upgrade "SB4100-0.4.9.4-SCM02-NOSH" already.
Currently on 3MB on Guildford UBR
Tier Upgrade Website: No Joy.
CS: Initially adamant that the was no 10MB Service then said not available yet outside of trial group and upgrades would start sometime in December. The CS computer system doesn't have the facility to upgrade people to 10MB
TS: Which didn't sound Uk based, Upgrades cannot happen until end of this year when they are automatic for everyone.

TS Attempt #2: Said a) CS should have been able to upgrade. and b) there was a downstream capacity/performance issue on my UBR and that no one on that UBR has been upgraded to 10MBit/s yet and is unlikely to be permitted to until the downstream issue is resolved as it would cause degradation of service for the other users.
So at least that was a helpful/credible explanation.

where exactly is this.???....bit of a noob...well thats what CS told me when i asked about getting 10Mbit...
was a 2Mbit user..but after phoning CS in the week to ask about 10Mbit and if it was in my area..scottish lady said 'YES' it is..but only to 3Mbit users.....tonight i decided to make the leap....how WRONG could i have been.!!
i upgraded...light flashed on/off...rebooted etc,etc...gave it some time....then went online hopeing for a whole new internet experiance...upload had gone up to 512ish..but down...around the 3Mbit mark..!!
so on the phone to TS for 57 min's into safe mode,tracert,etc,etc..was told everything was fine .!!
then at the end of the call he slipped in 'but 10Mbit is not standerd until Jan 2006'....WHAT.!!
ok..so then on the phone to CS for 37 min's 'i was told i could have a 10Mbit connection..i have not got that and thats the only reason i upgraded from 2Mbit,because i was told by YOU that i could have 10Mibt..so i want downgrading back to 2Mbit until Jan 2006...'Sorry' was the reply..it will cause my modem to crash if they change the speeds so soon after upgrade.'call back in 2 day's..'
WHAT A LOAD OF BULL**IT....

it allows you to inspect your cable modem's configuration including what the max upload and max download speeds are.
