Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
Interesting you brought up the lack of unmetered wording.
The 512k package that heavy users are been moved to seems to be unmetered but I have always wondered how much higher ntl would go with unmetered, you are correct that unlimited is very different to umetered. The current services are not unlimited in the same sense, whilst allowing unlimited but charging for it is unlimited and not false advertising but i could be interpreted as misleading advertising.

A friend of mine who currently only receives digital tv from Ntl has been sent a letter by them offering him a 512k service for £14.99.
I know ntl having been looking to find out if people prefer a uncapped 2mb service as opposed to 10mb service a with 3gb cap if both were priced at £17.99.

or let the subscriber choose what is best for them
give the customer choice...
(also include £10/month + £1/gb for people like my parents)

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
I would stay with ntl even for 25 quid with 2m uncapped. I cannot imagine why would I need 10m...I think I am behind the progress or something but I don't need this kind of speed.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
How do ntl plan to monitor the bandwith useage
is it Via Mac address
or via Ip address
because if via mac how can they be certain thats its not been cloned
or if its IP or IPs as with Xbox live service modem gets 2 IPs
Ip can be changed just by changing NIC card or spoofing NIC mac
how do they plan to get the monitoring accurate

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
2meg uncapped at £17.99 is too low a pricepoint, thats asking for stupid contention.
I would pay £29.99 for a 200gig 20:1 2mbit connection.
---------- added 25-11-2005 at 20:14 ----------
The xbox service is been dropped now so it should be easier to tell when 2 ip's are live that its cloned. Maybe thats the real reason why they dropping the xbox service.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
i should imagine it will be some form of monitoring based on trafic at the point where your modem conencts to the ntl network although i dont claim to be an expert on acable networks by any streach of the imagination

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
haha fahys71 chart proves how damned low the current caps are.Nice work on this list, even I'm shocked how quick you hit your caps with this list.
Basicly you use your 10mb connection 1 hour a day using the speed you pay for, your allready allmost twice over the 75gb limit.
It also shows theres no need for these power speeds right now.Its purely just so you can advertise these speeds (alongside others like bulldog doing 8mb,pure marketing cr@p make it look like your actually getting this package) to people who unwillingly either paying for a package they don't need or to people who will be using the said package and be dropped to the laughing stock among fellow net users speed of 512k.
Dare I say OPEN THE GATE ntl before people climb over it to other isp's.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
Sky are doing something similiar to bbc, so we going to have to internet tv type services within 12 months, these are both going to have much more take up and less arguments against then things like p2p, it will be interesting how low cap isp's handle the situation.

For £17.99 you (already) get the 512k uncapped (the naughty boy rate ). I think you will see a 1 meg uncapped for £24.99, and possibly a 2 meg for £37.99

I would take the 2MB, if ntl would let me which is doubtful.

If that's the case I'll move over to ADSL2+, apparently Be is coming here in March, should get 5-8mbit for £25 where my house is.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
I think that given a choice I would take any uncapped service available as long as it is above 1 Mb. Hell I might even consider the 512k service. Anything is preferable to having a cap. You constantly have to worry anout it. It's a complete pain in the ****.
It strikes me as completely ludicrous that they are providing the massive speed increases with no substantial cap increases to match. I'm sorry but 75Gb is nothing when you are on 10 Mb. I think I'd rather take 1Mb uncapped for 24.99 than 10Mb with a 75 Gb cap for the same price- just to be able to do what I want without having NTL staring over my shoulder every bloody second!
