after the firmware update as rudly discussed in this thread yesteday

surfboard sb4100 in bishops stortford, 5 year old computer, 4 year old network card, and this one wired to a netgear wgt624 router just to give all particulars

Downstream = 1,200 kilobytes per sec was the fastest!! (off fileplanet subscribed server )
Upstream = about 62 kilobytes per second

Have just moved and engineer gave me a ntl:250 modem as when he installed the broadband I hadn't unpacked my ntl:120. Speed now lots better.

2nd 512K took 1438 ms = 364595 KB/sec, approx 3033 Kbps, 2.96 Mbps
3rd 512K took 1454 ms = 360583 KB/sec, approx 3000 Kbps, 2.93 Mbps
4th 512K took 2157 ms = 243064 KB/sec, approx 2022 Kbps, 1.97 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 2764 Kbps, 2.7 Mbps

Modem has new firmware but still no sign yet of upgrade
