Domain name

Hi, seem to be full of questions today! Wher can i buy a cheap domain name. ? I've been looking at easily.co.uk who seem to be pretty cheap, but does anyone have a cheaper one? I don't need a lot of webspace, and probably a couple of email adresses.

Thanks all!

Re: Domain name

The criteria for chosing a registrar shouldn't be cost ultimately.. but convienience. The savings in time and effort when dealing with a good host/registrar are priceless.

I have used 123-reg.co.uk for years. There are many others around, but I couldn't vouch for their reliability or quality of customer service.

Re: Domain name

2nd'd with 123-reg.co.uk...

£6.09 for 2 years all in is not to bad. Their tech support is great . Emails are responded to in hours not days and they are owned by pipex so unlikely to just dissapear.

also for good cheap hosting try i-web

Man I like the new edit wysiwyg in the posts.......

Re: Domain name

I look after the website at work and use easily.co.uk. They are the only people i'e ever used and they seem pretty good. Just wondered who else was recommended.

Re: Domain name

They are 3.90 dearer than 123-reg though for a .co.uk and they are very good. Not much more I can say than that.

Re: Domain name

I've always used UK2.net don't know about the price these days, if you use their services for hosting etc it is expensive but they allow you to replace the DNS information for free, so mine now all point to i-web for hosting.

Re: Domain name

Nope. But then if you're paying 3 quid more, then I guess it's arguable if it's free! Like PC mags that cost 2 quid more than normal mags with a "free" CDROM on the front!

I would suggest that you think about what you want the website to actually do - if you want to install a blog, or a discussion forum, or a picture gallery etc, then you will need to have your domain hosted by someone who provides mySQL & PHP scripting facilities.

To an extent it doesn't matter who you get the domain name from - provided they are competitive on price & do not charge for you to redirect the name servers, the ones already suggested, will do - don't forget a co.uk has a minimum 2 year registration period.

Personally would look into the combo suggested by handyman of 123-reg for the domain & I-web solutions for the hosting, both of which I use myself, with no problems, whatsoever - total cost around £14 a year.

Re: Domain name

Sorry to bring up this thread, and apologies if you've already made a descision, however I would like to offer you a domain name and email/web hosting for £8 per year (or £8 for two years if you're looking at a .co.uk domain).

I was thinking along the lines of 10 email accounts (includes webmail). Your website would be fully managable with cPanel control panel and you would be in complete control of your domain name.
Of course full support provided and we'd be happy to help you get everything set-up and running if you're new to the whole website melarky - http://www.valcatohosting.co.uk/
