Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
A friend has offered to swap his NTL250 for my NTL100 since he isn't bothered about the speed. Would it work, or is it locked to his account?

I won't work. Wait for the upgrades. Just like when customers needed samsung stbs, there will be a regional operation for an upgrade of modems too.

Anyway, phoned up NTL to see if the modem could be swapped for a :250, was told that they are ringing customers over the next week on a region by region basis to arrange modem swaps... anyone heard of this or was I fobbed?

No, you weren't fobbed off. ntl will upgrade all necessary modems. Just have a little patience,as it's a huge logistical operation.

look on the back of your modem - you should see a sticker with a 'mac' address on it - this is the unique ID of your modem linking to your account and your friend will have something similar. that's how it's assigned to your account.

Please dont misunderstand me...
I couldnt care less if it doesnt get upgraded in the next year, ive got 5mb down with 512k up.. Im chuffed.
I also understand that logistically, it is a major operation to undertake.
Something to mull over:
The nTL:100 modems will now become defunct as all of NTL's services are going to 10MB (right)?
Sending a CSR to swapout a modem is an expensive exercise. What about sending out the nTL:250 modems via recorded delivery through the post?
This would be CONSIDERABLY cheaper than sending an engineer.. regarding getting the old modem sent back, include a postage paid box/envelope. Seeing as their defunct modems, if the return rate is low as in people cant be bothered to send them back, so be it.. Can these modems be used for anything else?

Apologies if this has already been covered...
I understand that you can use the tier migration web page to get the 10MB upgrade? I am on 2MB at the moment, if I used this would I be bumped up to a £37.99 p/m package?

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
yes if you choose the new '10meg' tier ie. the top tier and the only one you should be offered on that tier migration page then you'll be paying £38 a month.

I'm on 10mb in Belfast, and i've seen one other person on here wth it, but we're both only getting 3mb speeds, hopefully the Belfast network will get the upgrade this week, taking us up to 5-10mb, depending on modems.

Any news on whether the Samsungs will be swapped, or is it still hoped they can be made to work at 10meg?
