cable box and freeview box??????!!!!!!!!

Now I know Im getting old when video recorders start becoming mysterious no go areas.....That accepted, Im fed up with my wife moaning at me that she cant watch stuff through the NTL cable box, now that Ive hooked up our new freeview box. Im sure it must be dead easy, but how can I have it so that I can access progs on freeview and cable??
Why does life have to be so complicated???!! And then we get on to taping from them both!! Ive a feeling that that is just not technically possible!
Anybody able to help me and let me into these arcane secrets???

Re: cable box and freeview box??????!!!!!!!!

Try connecting one to the video via scart lead (whichever you use most) & the other to the video via the aerial/rf lead, select an unused channel on the video & tune the one connected via the aerial/rf lead (eg ch 6). The video should pick up the other box on AV1 or AV2.
My basic set-up below.
