In fairness to NTL - In effect that means the prices for UK Online are £40 and Be £35 if you take into account phone line rental.....

....and of course you only get 24 meg if you live within 300 metres of your exchange....

What you will now have is a steady stream of users on here claiming they are within the 300 meters of the exchange. And therefor if they dont get there 10 meg, There oooffff to the greener grass just like the anti cap brigade

My understanding from a post by Jimbo is that this is a limitation of the interface between the Sammy and the UBR, and NTL are investigating whether UBR upgrades will help, or whether Sammys will need to be replaced. Until these investigations are complete, NO upgrade is available for Samsungs (though you MIGHT get some kind person to arrange a SACM).

Ok, so UK online and Be are ADSL2, but how long before NTL catch up?? Or drop their prices!!
those ADSL 24meg product will only give you the top speed if you're very very close to the exchange. I agree though as a direct price comparison NTL aren't as good.

ukonline is actually 22meg max and this is what they say:

We believe that if you are less than 2Km away from your telephone exchange, you should be able to get higher than 8Mb, and up to 22Mb. Final download speed depends on the length and quality of your phone line, which we check during Sign Up. If your line won't support 22Mb, but will support higher than 8Mb, we will let you know what speed we think you can get during Sign Up, and set your line as fast as it can go. If we are not able to guarantee at least 8Mb, we will offer you a lower speed service.

see here how NTL will always defeat ADSL!

http://www.internode.on.net/adsl2/graph/index.htm

you appear to need to be under 2.5km from your exchange in order to be better off speed wise than NTL customers. and that's subject to link quality and distance.

I just asked for a SACM and been told once its installed it will be at the 10meg speed. I have a samsung box at the moment, and they can't take the new speed.

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

Today NTL informed me that the 10Mbps service for EXISTING 3 Mbps customers began on the 8th November 2005 and is scheduled for completion by the end of December 2005 - please note that this is for EXISTING 3 Mbps customers. I understand that new applicants for the 10Mbps service will receive it ASAP.

This is all the information I have.

A very nice guy tho, extremely polite and in a jolly mood... maybe because he has the 10mb?
It must be because you don't have a NTL modem in the first instance, whereas I already have a 120, so they wont sort it out for me!,

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

I'm pretty annoyed to be honest, I live in manchester just down the road from the ntl office there and have called CS up twice and had no luck at all. They keep telling me that I can upgrade to 3Meg but I can't have 10meg until it's out officially and they're only "trialling" it at the moment with those that are already on 10Meg.

Told them I'd seen that lots of people have been upgraded and they just told me where to go..... gay.

Grrrr......

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

Work this one out then folks....

Rand CS got a nice friendly scottish lady and enquired about the 10mb roll-out,was told in the grimsby area it's december,so i asked the lady would you increase me to the 3mb tier..yes no problem.
Re-booted the modem got a speed of 2.5mb then got a call back from the same lady saying had to downgrade you back to the 2mb as your modem the ntl100 wont take it,so from this i assume either it wont take 3mb which i'm sure it will or shes saying it's allready in your area but untill december your not having it.....

Anyway she told me that i will get a letter or email asking me if i want to upgrade,so for now looks like i have to stay on the 2mb and also she told me you'll get another modem.

I checked on UK online to see what speed i could expect, and they said approx 16.5 mbit, maybe a bit higher or lower. Gotta say, I am tempted. UK online do charge 25 connection, and you have to buy a router for 80 quid, but it works about the same price for a year as NTL top tier.

tempted, tempted, tempted

Does you're friend have any idea when there will be a software update for the 'home 120 cable modems' ? The new speeds are fantastic but would luv to be able to go even faster!
