Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

Just a note to anyone in the glasgow area.

You should be able to upgrade to the 10Mb from ntl.com as i've just done so,i was on 2Mb and upgraded tonight about 9.30pm.

But i'm only getting about 4Mb(4092kbs)

I'm guessing that this is because of people that have upgraded in my area are testing thier connections about now,if my speed is still the same tomorrow i'm going to give cs a call to see if they can help.

I thought when people put somthing like "P.s Ive got 10Mb " instead of yay I got it its a more polite way of saying So I must be wrong. my apologies.

The CS lady is the face of the company to 99.9% of people. Something for NTL to think of.

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

Got 10Mb in Horndean, near Portsmouth. Upgraded from 2Mb to 10Mb about an hour ago. Worked within a minute of me pressing the button. No modem reboot, modem is behind a router. See attached screenshot from DU Meter.

Greeeaaaat!

That just about sums it up. I'm sure ntl have made improvements in customer service over the years since we started nthellworld, but the problem (IMHO) is that they still appear only interested in metrics rather that a qualatitive analysis. So number of calls may have gone down, length of call may have dropped, 1st time fix may have increased, but they still do not have the correct product information. I should stress here that this is not the fault of the front line staff themselves, but of the people responsible for timely communication, not to mention the fact that CSRs are pressured by management to keep call times down rather than give the customer the correct details, hence the disparity of information provided. The "most popular answer" approach still appears necessary with ntl unfortunately. This has been a long running problem, but I digress... It does however, become more apparent with large issues such as this.

I agree totally. They should inform staff more, the lady I spoke to on the phone didnt really know what was happening because she told me to ring back on the 1st of next month and then I would get the upgrade?

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

got a feeling that the Samsung STB's can handle 10meg.
I was on a trial software beta thingy ages ago and i asked one of the programming guys what the differance was between a pace and a samsung. He said basically the samsung has 2 processors, one compleatly seperate for the cable modem allowing faster speeds without effecting the tv.
And also can you really see NTL spending a fortune upgrading all the 2 and 3 meg users to samsungs then 6 months later making them useless?
To be honest if the samsungs didnt take 10 meg im guessing they would have upped the speed to something the samsung could support rather than replacing them all again!.

I'm of the same opinion, but only time will tell.

Deakin, I'm in Paisley and I'm getting around the same speed as you. I've tried a couple of suggestions made by other forum members but haven't seen any improvement. It is a new service so I'm going to hang on and see what happens. However, it is reassuring to see someone in a nearby area getting the same results, so therefore the lower speed might not be completely related to my equipment.

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

Are any of your peeps with RUBBISH (i.e. below 10Mb) downloads using wireless networking? I used to have it, and found that the real-world connection speed was about a third of what Windows reports. You'll have to get the Black and Decker out an a reel of cable to join us posh folks with big fat wide proper broadband connections.

If I upset everyone then put a smile at the end does that make it OK? Not quite learnt this netiquette thing yet.

As some have said before, this service is "up to 10Mbps", not "10Mbps guaranteed". Greedy sod.

I have inside knowledge that "up to" means that it's 10Mbits in posh areas only. Works great in my castle.

Not me, tests performed on non-wireless network (couple of PC's and a Mac), none of them are lacking spec wise either as somebody else mentioned. My speeds are slightly better than earlier, guess it's getting late.
