And before anyone asks, I just closed that thread to prevent re-starting a very old argument!

just read the last few posts. Even if I do say so myself, my last post is a classic

Ntl don't carry spy sports interactive because sky sports won't allow them. I'm sure if it was cost effective they would want it.

Lets not even get into the fact that its a sky service designed by sky to run on sky equipment.

Fact : sky charge ntl for channels and ntl price the packages based on this so when sky put up the prices ntl do (although ntl absorb the first few months increase each time)

Fact : Ntl wont give 2 hoots if the people downing 200+ GB each month go elsewhere.

im sure that when we had our box fitted (quite a while ago granted) the enginer told us that the reason they dident carry the skysports extra was becouse the ntl boxes wernt man enough for it (this was in the day's of the pace boxes)

But you agreed to the cap when you signed up or when they altered the T&C's so why moan about it?

I mean it's like a bloke walking up to you in the street and saying can I smack you across the face you saying yea sure and then moaning after he's done it?

I mean you would not sign up to a mobile phone company if you new you could ony use the thing for five mins a week and there is 10 people sharing it would you?

Again it depends if there was an easy cheap alternative, for example my house is new build and it never had any BT points wired up YET NTL had connected the place up already , so at the time it was easier to start with NTL because as you know BT charge a small fortune for 1st time connections. Also as pointed out it was UNLIMITED and the only reason it isn't now is that they have their captured userbase which is nearing saturation on their networks that they simply cannot handle large amounts of traffic anymore and how now grown large enough to kick people off their service with no effect to their income as 10 lite users will always follow at a later date.

If 30gigs is fine for you, than good for you, but for some of us it isn't, so don't tar everyone with the same brush

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)

yeah I admit I'm wrong on that sorry, but it is something that makes skys TV package that bit more attractive to football fans.also it costs less than ntls does now since their price increases.

Fact : Ntl wont give 2 hoots if the people downing 200+ GB each month go elsewhere.

Fact : so why have I a mate on another forum whos now left ntl thats got a taped and file dated phone call from a Ntl sales member pleading for him to give NTL time to sort unlimited packages out before he takes his whole £100+ pm tv,phone and net package elsewhere even though he blew massive hole in that cap far more than 200gbs per month and why are your call centers so hard to get intouch with to actually close your accounts, ive read a good few guys here having problems ?

like I said untill you give people what they want they will leave and potential new joining users will likely go elsewhere.I think the end of the football season will prove a watermark in seeing if people are happy paying more for a capped service than what other isp's have uncapped.

I'm honestly not bitching at you guys who work and rightly back up ntl (ive liked their packages in the past but feel slightly overcharged getting 512k for £18) and in fairness on the cap debate it looks like a fair few of my US buddies are fighting cap battles too mostly in areas where isps have monopolys.Surely though with streaming becoming more popular and bbc's online tv content around the corner and even ntls own online pay per use media content, the most saintly of users are going to need the capacity as well as speeds.I so hope NTL take word and value members like myself whove been a £90 pm customer for 5 years.Ive mostly had good times with them other than the last few months of going back and forth.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)

Well I think generally if someone is downloading a few hundred gig a month, ntl would see them as a customer they dont want, I wont disagree with that, but in your friend's case he happened to be spending a lot of money on other services which may have prompted the calls he got, in that case it would be a lack of communication between department's.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)

No they want to make money thats all,if they wanted to lose these so called abusers they would of closed their connections instead of bringing out the lower speeds to curb them somewhat.Like they said they was going to do in the letters (guess this scare tactic didnt work).SO CLEARLY THEY DON'T WANT TO LOSE CUSTOM.

Sadly no matter how diehard your faith in NTL is,theyve gone about this whole CAP issue all wrong, instead of sending letters out and everyone going ohh no i better not use this connection I pay good money for, people have carried on.(If 5 months back instead of auto upgrading peoples speeds and price per month cost, they would of made it optional and mentioned that though people are getting speed increases they are going to have to be limited) *edited in* then we would be in a happier postition of actually choosing for ourself if we wanted speeds or capacity and the same kinda packages would be still active 512k unlimited or 2,3,10mb speed packages.

So now like no one blames them theyre promising unlimited packages coming soon (again this is in the hope no one leaves) and keeping the over users down by speed capping instead of capacity capping.(But in all credit to NTL they have lowered the price so I don't for one feel hard done too).

ISP's arnt naive they know full well that speeds like 10mb arnt just for surfing quicker so wish people wouldnt moan when they get people who do use them for not doing just that.

Some members here have been honest enough to admit why theyve used 150gbs or more a month. Can anyone here tell me why if they arnt d/ling or u/ling do you need 10mb connections ? surely no one can look at so many porn url's they need that speed.(Ive played every current fps online and its barely touched my 1.5mb connection) So please stop being naive or go back to offering a £10pm surfing only package.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)

Hi there, now I've searched for what I'm looking for, and having seen how many posts there are in this thread i'm dreading the prospect of manually searching! However, I'm gonna ask the question, does anybody know a good net usage monitor that I can run in the background while logged on. I'm using a networked computer (connected to my dad's) and his has the two lil screens down in the taskbar, but mine doesn't (Windows 98!!!!). I just want to see my average usage because I have no idea what so ever.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Rhiannon
