Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
no-one can tell you what will happen it all depends on NTL, letters if they are still sending them out and it wasn't just a Purge to find real heavy users are normal sent out around the 10th of the each month.
I think you'll be fine though

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
I'm sure a lot of you will disagree but for the money I think getting cut off at 150GB seems rather fair. If you've got away with it until now count yourself lucky.
Even those ISP's that claim unlimited downloads have a fair usage policy which undoes their unlimited download claims.
At least with NTL they are making it clear they have such a limit (and im not fan of NTL!)

i completly agree that 150gig is a resonable cap 3gig isent 30 gig is moderate adn bearable but could be better

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
Had a m8 on the phone Saturday, thought something was wrong with his PC and could i have a look at it.
Well it was'nt his PC, it was his connection causing slow browsing.
He's been downgraded without any warning from 2meg to 512k.
When i asked him how much he had downloaded he said casually, about 264 gig last month. [in fact he said "only" approx]
But he never got any letters about cutting down, or being downgraded, even though that is a lot of Linux stuff. .

Been watching this thread for a bit ..
Anyway I was on holiday in July and hence never went over my limit for that month .. My usage .. dont flame has been
June 200GB+
July 10GB
August 200GB+
September 160GB+
October 200GB+
Obviously a lot of Linux Iso's.. I think NTL only contacts you depending on how much you spend with them. TV wise I have nothing but I make about 100+ quid of phone calls per month.
btw I am expecting a letter .. but nothing has materialised and my speed is still 3MB ..

Actually I suspect the reason some people have letters and others don't is that they're not sending out any automated letters - it looks like the AUP team are reviewing everything case by case, which will obviously take longer. I reckon you'll get yours sooner or later.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
If people don't want the cap on their NTL broadband then why not sign up with AOL???????
AOL will connect at 1MB uncapped via your NTL cable!
I mean there is forever people moaning about the caps, I have a 2MB connection with NTL and I have a cap but I don't mind it being there as I never go over it!
But if I did then I would consider another ISP, this does not have to be via ADSL because you can get AOL broadband through NTL's cable.
At the end of the day you can compare it to this, if you walk into a shop and say how much is that and he replys to you. Why that sir is £19.99 but it comes with one condition! if you take it sir then for as long as you require it on the fifth of every month I must come over your house and F**K your wife until you decide you no longer require the item.
If you are stupid enough to say yes then don't complaine when he's knocking at your door!

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
Reasons people may not want AOL.
Installing their software.
Max 1mbit burst.
But if I got capped to 512kbit it would probably trigger me to goto AOL.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
As everybody else does it I will stick my tuppence worth in again.
The high bandwidth users are working under the assumption that what they are doing is reasonable use and that anybody using broadband access is going to find the system unusable if they can't pull down 100s of gigs of data in whatever form they want.
NTL is working on the assumption that it's their network and will apportion access to it at the rates they want, for the access (speed and volume) that they think the market will stand. For the vast bulk of users I suspect that the current speeds and caps are about right. If not the vast migration of users to AOL et al might give them cause to reconsider.
So they will consider the heavy download brigade as specialist users requiring a specialist service. Which they will charge a special price for, no doubt.
So it's a bit like real life. If you want a better service you pay for it.

Yes i can agree with that statement but what about those of us who signed up with ntl when they had there tc's as unlimited & always on. I know it was something like that

One of the T&Cs is that NTL can change the T&Cs, and if they do, you have the right to cancel the service without the usual 30 days notice. If you don't do that, you effectively agree to the new terms. This is not unfair, because there are plenty of other broadband service providers for you to choose from.

no-one is arguing this, infact alot of heavy users probably don't mind paying a extra fixed price. I remember when it was £50 for 1meg and back then it was unlimited.,
only thing i don't like is the 1meg/2meg users not getting warning letters yet they download just as much in most cases in ratio to their speed and pay alot less than someone on 3meg, shouldn't NTL be targeting them more than someone willing to pay the extra and be on the top tier than some skinflint on the lowest teir doing the same

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
so your saying bottom teir users should be persecuted for using there conection?
if it was all in ratio to speed 2meg users should have a 20gig cap and 1meg users 10 gig then the almighty gods that have the disposablye income for 3meg should get 30gig sorry for the sarcasm but i find your point a little off the mark not intending to start a flame war here jsut trying to make a point
