Re: NTL blocked emails from France?

To m y astonishment Wanadoo.fr have actually, after months of complaints, replied as follows:
"nous vous invitons ÃÃâ€*’ configurer de votre client de messagerie avec les paramÃÃâ€*’¨tre s suivants:

Serveur de courrier sortant: smtp-msa.wanadoo.fr
Port de connexion au serveur sortant: 587
Authentification activÃÃâ€*’©e"

which being translated, reads:

We invite you to configure your e-mail client as follows:

Outgoing mail server: smtp-msa.wanadoo.fr
Connection Port for outgoing server: 587
Authentication: activated

This appears to work! I have actuallymanaged to correspond with someone with an ntlworld address over the last couple of days, with nary a bounce.

But being a cynic, I guess Sorbs will rumble this one, sooner or later, or ntlworld will invent some new filter to isolate their clients from the outside world . . . . and some of my messages to ntlworld addresses still seem to simply disappear into limbo, no bounce, no nothing . . . . maybe these of my friends with ntlworld addresses have dropped off . . . !

Cheers

I sent six test emails from Hotmail to my Ntlworld email account and also six to another account I have on Hemscott. All 6 emails from Hotmail arrived in my Hemscott account immediately, but only 1 made it to Ntlworld.

After a day or so, I received a message from the Postmaster at Hotmail for the 5 failed emails to Ntlworld with subject 'Delivery Status Notification (Failure)' and the following message ... "This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification. Unable to deliver message to the following recipients, due to being unable to connect successfully to the destination mail server.".

There does appear to be some sort of problem between Hotmail servers and the Ntlworld email servers. It only appears to affect emails from Hotmail because none of my other (non-Hotmail) friends have reported any problems.

I would be interested to hear if any other Ntlworld email users are having problems receiving emails from Hotmail ?
ZigZag, I've been having exactly the same problem since August sending mail from my hotmail.com address to my ntlworld.com address. ntl may have a legit reason for blocking mail from wannadoo.fr addresses, but surely it's not reasonable for them to block all mail from hotmail.com, is it?

Re: NTL blocked emails from France?

I have sent emails to my friends and my own ntlworld.com address, and the mails aren't being received, either into Outlook Express or webmail. I get an email in my Hotmail the next day from postmaster@mail.hotmail.com saying:

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE.

Delivery to the following recipients has been delayed.

and then I get another email the next day saying:

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Unable to deliver message to the following recipients, due to being unable to connect successfully to the destination mail server.

I don't have a problem accessing my ntlworld mailbox, and I am receiving other emails to that mailbox OK.

Re: NTL blocked emails from France?

Last I checked hotmail.co.uk was on SORBS but hotmail.com wasn't.

Re: NTL blocked emails from France?

Just to add to this, my sister in France is having all emails she sends to ntl email accounts bounced back to her. She is with tiscali.fr. I can't see that tiscali is listed on SORBS and weeks of communications with ntl have resulted in no help what so ever in resolving the problem.
Does anyone know of anyone else having problems with tiscali.fr?

Re: NTL blocked emails from France?

Yup, problems with Tiscali, seem a few other examples.
Not confirmed what server(s) are causing the problems, but Libertysurf's is and Tiscali mail does seem to go through there.

http://www.senderbase.org/search?sea...g=213.36.80.91

Only way to confirm is to find out what server her mail is going through, which should be stated in the bounce message, otherwise you can find it by asking her to send a mail to a non-ntl address and checking the headers.

Re: NTL blocked emails from France?

If they are on a blacklist that ntl uses to check for naughty mailservers, then yes, email from them will be blocked.

This worked great for me on my PC using Outlook Express. However, my friend has the same email woes to ntl, but he uses a Mac computer with its own email software. It is a bit different from Outlook Express, but I did try changing the outgoing mail settings in any case. Unfortunately emails wouldn't send at all with the new suggested settings. Does anyone know how to overcome the problem for Mac users? Any help will be gratefully received.
