Talking MCAFEE INTERNET SECURITY SUITE - any good?

I'm sick to death with the memory-hogging Norton Internet Security and i saw an advert about MCAFEE INTERNET SECURITY SUITE 2006 on PCWorld.

My question is, is it better than Norton? And how much computer's memory will it use?

I can install one copy of my norton (purchase legally) on my PC and laptop. I wonder if i can do the same with McAfee?

Also, i'll appreciate it if you guys and girls can recommend me some other good Internet Security software.

I have no trouble at all with Norton, it has protect my computer well, even detected many trojans and virus and so far, and when i scan with Spybot etc, the spyware result is always 0. My only trouble is that even on my Pentium 4 2.6 Ghz with 512 mb RAM, it used way too much memory and my computer is certainly much slower than it used to be.

So, my main priority now is to get excellent software with minimum use of computer's hardware.

Thanks.

I use the freebee's AVG (grisoft) and zone alarm, never had any problem

I used to use the "paid for" one's many years ago but found out I didn't like them for numerous reasons

Re: MCAFEE INTERNET SECURITY SUITE - any good?

right.

pentium 4 , 2.6ghz 512 aint a bad machine at all so don't worry about the specs. however it is well known that norton does consume large amounts of CPU.

i used to have mcaffee until blueyonder pcguard came out. mcafee is probably better, however it was a week from my renewal date and i really couldn't see any point paying since there was a free service from my isp available.
mcafee was great. the antivirus was fast, the firewall was very secure, and allows you to to configure settings for networks etc... (which pcguard doesn't do)
the price is extremely good, and you can download it from their website.
it is an excellent security suite, and consumes very little CPU. it is quick to load up at startup too.
i have an amd 3000+ with 512ram and it worked perfectly. didn't slow me down. and it didn't decrease download speeds or web browsing speeds either.
it's highly recommended . however if your on blueyonder, get pcguard. its free.

Re: MCAFEE INTERNET SECURITY SUITE - any good?

Can't comment on the new version of McAfee, but I didn't like the firewall much on previous versions. Antivirus has been very good for some time though.

Like you, I've thrown in the towel with Norton. It gets slower by each release. I've now put on Zonealarm Security Suite 6 after favourable reports in mags and on the net. My system's speed has improved dramatically, but just one word of warning. Zonealarm does nag far more than Norton, so you have to respond more often to both program run requests and internet access. I've searched the net a few times for filenames I was unsure of, to see what they are before allowing access.

All-in-all, I'm happy with Zonealarm so far.

Yeah, but can you install one copy of McAfee into 2 computers?

I don't really want to buy 2 anti virus programs....

Re: MCAFEE INTERNET SECURITY SUITE - any good?

my opinion about Norton and MCaffee is the same... hate them both as they are both memory hogs... prefer the setup AVG and ZoneAlarm and both are freebies if wanted but you lose a bit of the functionality tho...other then that you could use Avast as your virus scanner which is just as good or some say better then AVG

just dont use Mcaffee my previous experiences with it was that it let some nasty virusses go through my system and I had to rebuild it again that was the last time I ever use that again

Another vote for ZoneAlarm Security Suite, here, although it is quite expensive to buy outright, you can usually get some discount upgrading a trial version.

I used to use McAfee, but I 'lost' my hard disk & found I hadn't backed up the registration key - after many weeks trying I gave up trying to penetrate their customer service, and gave up using the program.....

I agre with levig about McAfee - it's another resource hog. It also tends to produce similar email problems to those that Norton does: I simply couldn't send emails with attachments from the machine I had it on a couple of years back. One thing in its favour as against Norton: at least it uninstalls easily.

Actually, Zone Alarm with Antivirus (as opposed to Zone Alarm Security Suite) is very cheap: about £20 to buy (online) and about £13.50 a year to renew. The antivirus component comes from Computer Associates and generally seems very highly thought of. It's very non-demanding in terms of computer resources: slows things down a bit (not a lot) when you're running a scan, but in normal use I don't even bother deactivating it for games - just doesn't seem to make any noticeable difference.

Re: MCAFEE INTERNET SECURITY SUITE - any good?

I've had McAfee for years, prior to that I had Norton. I have had nothing but good experiences with McAfee. No problems with email etc.. Their firewall is also pretty secure and you can set your own parameters. If someone trys to access your system, McAfee traces it and lets you know who it is thats trying to access your ports. I give them a plus
