speedtest sites

some speedtest sites for those with problems that might want to use.

giganews servers are in europe.

the 2nd one uses usa servers but the ny one should easily max out a 3mbit connection.

these tests are good for testing the throughput of external traffic outside of ntl's network and uk peering routes. They better then robin walker speedtest because (a) the files on there are small and not true indication of sustained transfer rate and (b) its hosted on ntl's network and doesnt reflect peering throughput.

my current speed in giganews is 1100kbps last night at 3am was 1975kbps

on the speakeasy NY link it is 1569kpbs down and 178kbps up. 1885kbps and 184kbps using the colc2 proxy.

http://www.giganews.com/test_connect.html
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

I find these sites a good way to test proxy throughput as it is quite easy to vary the result. Later on I might post results with a few proxies.

Re: speedtest sites

I think it looks like ntl peer with giganews directly and the peering point is congested like the old cogent issue, the first trace is over ntl to giganews and the 2nd is nildram to gianews both same target ip.

7 38 ms 44 ms 32 ms amst-ic-1-so-100-0.inet.ntl.com [62.253.185.254]
8 56 ms 182 ms 82 ms ams-ix.ams.giganews.com [195.69.145.141]

8 25 ms 25 ms 26 ms giganews-104944-adm-b2.c.telia.net [213.248.73.2]
9 25 ms 26 ms 25 ms 216-196-108-122.ams.giganews.com [216.196.108.122]

the nildram route doesnt go over 195.69.145.141 tho and it isnt even routable from nildram. So this probably will affect giganews speedtest results.

adslguide i cant use because after the download test the upload test does nothing.
zdnet is 2040kbps but was very short so seems a too small file for accuracy
2090 for zensupport again too short for accuracy.

Re: speedtest sites

is this really a thread to list speed tests? or is it another discussion of ntl peering?

Re: speedtest sites

speed test's that giganews peering I unfortenatly noticed after I did the post, its meant to be for people to help with diagnosis if they having problems on ntl, I am about to do another thread on a peering update.

It was posted because of the increase of people having performance issues on ntl.
