Connectivity Issues.....

Hi all,

Im having a real headache with my broadband setup and would like some help if possible please?

For the last week my connection experiences a dropped connection upto 10/15 times a day. It just wont obtain the I.P. address and the ready light sits there flashing for ages.

When the connection is established browsing is almost non-existant till I change the proxy. I have tried the speed check and i can get the full 3mb when connected. Checked the modem logs but which deplay timeout errors, unfortunately I cant post them as im at work.

I not noob to networking and am a IT engineer but this this is starting to really puzzle me, as I have eliminated all factors on my side. Clean build of xp pro sp2, tried connecting the laptop instead. Removed the wireless router, tried a direct connect the ethernet (two of these) and replaced the cables.

I finally had enough and decided to call ntls support line, and the call centre chappy said id need an engineer, the engineer came and saw the problem but couldnt detirmine whats causing it, he replaced the modem and it still happened and after an hr it gained a connection again. The engineer left and it was fine until last night/this morning where it had the same problem.

Please could somebody suggest something or an ntl employee she some light on this?

Many thanks

Re: Connectivity Issues.....

Looks like you need to pester faults again. Make sure they know it's a repeat issue, and replacing the modem hasn't solved it.

It's probably some form of signal loss. May be adjustments needed in the street cabinet, a damaged cable, who knows, but someone at ntl must be able to get to the bottom of it.
