aol email blocking

emails I send to aol addresses are being returned with this message,

554- AOL does not accept e-mail transactions from IP addresses which
554- generate complaints or transmit unsolicited bulk e-mail.

personally I don't spam people, is aol's spam filter very aggressive, anyone else having any problems?

Re: aol email blocking

It coul be that NTL have been blacklisted by AOL, because some people have had there PCs attacked by viruses that sent out junk to all there contacts.

Re: aol email blocking

No; according to NITLC (I'm doing my MCAD with them), this is what's happening:

We are currently experiencing some problems sending email to AOL users, AOL have a policy of unilaterally blocking WITHOUT ANY NOTICE whole ip address blocks that may or may not have been associated with spamming in the past.

There is absolutely no way to know if you are in these blocked ip blocks. We were very surprised that one ip address would be blocked without any notice just because it fell into a block that others might have used for spamming. Moreover the email not delivered is not bounced but simply goes down a black hole with the sender and receiver none the wiser that their mail is being killed.

So there you go. Serves you right for using Always Off Line.

Re: aol email blocking

It isn't him who's using AOL, Anonymouse - it's the people he's sending email to. ;-)

Re: aol email blocking

Well, I don't think anyone who uses AOL is demonstrating good judgement, Anonymouse, but there's a lot of people like that around. AOL do do a lot of promotion - is there _anyone_ here who doesn't have an AOL disk or two lurking somewhere in the nethermost recesses of their house? Bit like wire coathangers, although _they're_ useful...
