Which blank DVDs!
Right,
I'm lost! Blank DVD's - which ones should I use for which application?
By application - I mean PC data, audio, DVD to play on stand-alone DVD player etc - not Nero or or an other PC application!
What's the best usage guide please?

Re: Which blank DVDs!
Do you mean + or - format? 'cause basically - it don't matter. Use whatever you can find at a decent price that works nicely in your DVD burner.
I myself use the Ritek G04 or G05 dye as a DVD-R, but then I only have a 4x burner.

Hi,
Correct! + or - ? I heard that some certain types don't work in stand-alone DVD players. Any truth in that?

What's truth? lol.
Having looked into this, it would seem that '-' is possibly more compatible - but that depends on which consortium you decide is making the rules.
There's plenty of information on the 'net on this subject - do a bit of research and then decide.
BTW - last time I went shopping for DVDs +R and -R were the same price.

Re: Which blank DVDs!
well -R are what you would call normal DVD format. +R are not classed as proper DVDs which is why they don't carry the DVD logo.

Re: Which blank DVDs!
-r work best imo and the best you can get are the Taiyo yuden(TYG02) dye disks. There also the most expensive look on svp at the verbatum discs. The Ritek G05 dye would most likely be best .If you have a pioneer update firmware

Re: Which blank DVDs!
ritek with G05 dye are what i always buy, and use for all kinds of backup. +r do not work in a lot of standalone dvd players, but if you have a writer capable of changing the dvd+r booktype then you can change it to dvd-rom and they will magically work in almost any dvd player. still, -r is safest way to go for now and you should be able to get 50 ritek for around £12 from svp (not including shipping).

Re: Which blank DVDs!
What about using RW discs, you can re-record on these like using a vcr tape.

Re: Which blank DVDs!
the ritek ones are prob the best.. a word of warning though the cheaper you go with DVDs you can end up having problems viewing in a stand along player my writter can with some free DVDs and they were so rubbish i couldn't watch anything on my dvd player it would always jump and be jerky
for mid price i always find TDK are ok and never give me any probs
