Moving House and Cancelling Within Minimum Term
Alright there folks.
Someone directed me to this forum from elsewhere and thought I would see if anyone here could help me out before I actually phone ntl. I've had a look for a thread that would answer my problem for me but couldn't find one so apologies if I have just over looked it.
Basically I signed up to the ntl 3 for £30 offer they do in April when I had just moved in to the flat I'm currently renting. However, after being shafted for rent I've decided to buy somewhere and the new place doesn't have ntl wiring. Is that a valid reason to get out of my contract early before the 12 months is up or am I stuck paying £30 a month or appoximately £210 in a one-er until I've paid up for 12 months?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers!

You should be ok, but there are some off net products they will talk to you about.

Is the new place in a cabled area? Whilst it may not presently have wiring, ntl would normally install there as part of a move, if it is a serviceable address. Give them a call with the postcode/house number and they will advise.

If you move from a serviced area, to a non-serviced area, then they'll break the contract without penalty for you. I know that because I asked them personally, as it was an issue I had when signing up.
The same applies to moving to a serviceable address, where the landlord won't allow NTL to install. They'll break the contract, penalty-free. I have just got that direct from an NTL employee I happened to be speaking to (as you do). There is also a department in NTL which is there to resolve installation issues between landlords and customers if you want NTL, and he won't allow it.
I think they only time they won't let you break out of a contract is if the address is pre-wired and ready to go, as you have no excuse really.

Cheers for the welcome. I've not actually firmly decided on what place I'm going to buy yet but most of the ones that are top of my priorities don't have ntl wiring (I think - I'll phone ntl to double check).
If they do then that's fine and I'll just continue with ntl there but I didn't want to be stuck paying for a service I wasn't receiving, especially with all the other expenses I've got mounting up at the moment with this house-buying lark.
Thanks again for your help.

There have been threads in the forums where customers have said that this is not always the case. They have moved to a non-servicable area and had to pay up for the remainder of their contract term.

I agree, I remember numerous threads where people had been told they have to have NTL:Freedom or pay up.

OK. Well, the best case scenario would be then that it doesn't have ntl wiring and I can cancel. However, I don't really mind carrying on paying AS LONG AS I receive some sort of service from them. I just don't want to waste £200+ paying for services I'm not even using when that £30 a months could go towards something much more useful.
Maybe I'll just have to hope I get someone in a good mood when I phone up to try and cancel my contract....

As Nikko suggested earlier, if the address is serviceable but is not wired, you can simply move your services and NTL will do an install at the new house. You will have to pay for the install, but you can simply transfer your services to the new address.
