Pace to Samsung upgrade today
Hi guys,
I've got an engineer coming shortly to swap my Pace out for a Samsung for the BB speed upgrade.
My connection is via a wireless router to the STB. Will it be a pain free swap, or is it worth making notes of MAC addresses, etc, or other set-up info before he gets here?
Cheers

Hi Chase,
As long as you power down your router and pc before the box is swapped, then power router up first then your pc, you shouldn't have any problems at all

Re: Pace to Samsung upgrade today
You will need your account details and password, as originally provided to you by ntl when you first got broadband.
Once the new STB is up and running (can take a little while for it to get the ntl configurations for broadband and a like from the network), you will need to reboot your router, STB, etc. Once rebooted, you have to register your PC / router with the STB / Cable network. YOu should get pointed to the right place automatically by your browser. If not try entering start:ntl in the browser address line, then follow the instructions.
You shouldn't need to change any router or similar settings.

I'm out of Jaffa Cakes - Do you think half a baked potato will do him?

Chase,
The IP address is MAC specific, that's why it's best to power everything down first. If you left everything on you would have to release and renew all the IP adressing.
I know it sounds like a pain in the butt to do it this way, but in the long run it is the better way of doing things.
If you have problems I am in the office all day till 4, so drop me a pm and I will help you further if need be

Re: Pace to Samsung upgrade today
Thanks Rob - I've got all those details here with me. Believe it or not, I put all my details into a text file on the PC when I first got NTL 3 years ago, in case I ever needed them!

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm in IT so hopefully everything should go OK. I was able to sort out my Dad's BB a few weeks back when he had problems with his router.
Managed to get through re-reg'ing his kit eventually and get him back online.
I'll ley you know how it goes.
Thanks again.

Re: Pace to Samsung upgrade today
Well, happy to say all went well, and as you can tell I'm back online.
Had a bit of rebooting of various boxes to do, but the worst problem was trying to find my PID - It's the only bit of info I didn't put into my details text file

I did say it would be a pain to do, but I am glad that everything is now back up and running for you
