Re: d link dgl 4300 router connection problem

hmm no one got any suggestions? seems as the wireless is working (at least is says strong signal is found and that i can access the router and that the internet connection works when the router isnt plugged in the middle can anyone suggest anything i could check? i have my ip addresses all set to auto and router on default.

the problems all started when i messed with the router and then couldnt access it anymore then i had to reset it externally.

any suggestions on what i could check or idea's on what i could do would be appreciated.

ps since this router debarcle my set top box has started dropping my connection but only when using p2p software. it was doing this frequently when i first bought it but then after a few months stopped. ( dont know if its linked to my problem but thought i would add it)

thanks

Re: d link dgl 4300 router connection problem

So the connection between your STB and PC via ethernet works fine without the router? The wireless part of the router works OK? A wired connection between the router and STB can't be made.

Start by trying a wired only connection between the STB > router > PC. Get that up and runing first, then add the wireless. I'd reset the router again to clear out any settings you have made. Check too that your PC's settings are cleaned out in terms of IE type settings for caches, DNS and the like, allowing the network card to pick up settings automatically. Power down the lot, then reboot (in order) STB, router, PC.

Once you have rebooted you want to get to the ntl STB broadband registration screen. Type start:ntl into the IE address bar. You should be able to register the router, without any need to clone a MAC. If you already have a number of PCs or other stuff registered you may need to delete them as it will only allow a maximum of five.

Re: d link dgl 4300 router connection problem

What make/model of router is it?

You could try manually refreshing the IP/DHCP Lease from within the router by going into the router settings and looking for something like DHCP Renew/Release and Releasing then Renewing the connection, you should then see your IP address and the lease Start/End date if the router has picked up the new settings. In trying to setup the Wireless part the router may have picked up wrong settings?
