Re: Frequent 'No Connection' Problem, and Install Disc ?'s
I think I just followed the instructions here:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d....html#fwconfig
But it was so long ago, and I've slept since then
IIRC it turned out that once I'd made some changes, and set up ZA so that it new that the modem was trusted, it all started working properly again. Turned out that ZA was misinterpreting the requests from the modem.
Hope that helps anyway, shout back if it doesn't and I'll install ZA here and see if I can remember what I did

Of the above list, the UBR's private IP address (see Finding the UBR Address above) seems to be the most important (and the one which causes difficulties unique to cable connections): the UBR acts as a DHCP Relay Agent (see RFC 2131). Several users have reported that they had difficulties acquiring or renewing their DHCP lease (symptom: disconnection every few hours) until they included their UBR as a trusted host (or permitted DHCP protocol from any host). Some firewalls are smart enough to recognise a normal DHCP transaction, but few are smart enough to recognise the validity of the DHCP broadcasts emanating from an apparently off-subnet address such as the UBR's private IP address.

Re: Frequent 'No Connection' Problem, and Install Disc ?'s
I would have thought that ZA bug would have been fixed by now Seems to have been around ages, it seems there has aways been an issue with ZA not controlling it's processes properly. Follow Raist's post above and tell ZA to trust things like the modem, UBR, DNS servers etc that your connection is using and hopefully it will behave itself. If not I would suggest uninstalling ZA to try a different firewall.
Whenever someone posts to say they are having problems with their connection and ZA is mentioned, 9 times out of 10 it's ZA that's at fault, hence why I always pick on it lol.

It would appear that they haven't sorted it unfortunately (either that or the OP is using an old version of the software).
I used to swear by ZA, going so far as to recommend it to anybody that was interested, now I just swear at it

Join the club, until they fix the bug that's been active for over a year I refuse to touch it, I'd rather run a firewall that actually blocked unwanted connection attempts rather than the broadband connection itself

Re: Frequent 'No Connection' Problem, and Install Disc ?'s
Hate to say it you guys, but nothing has worked. Def. not firewall, I've tried running a system (SP2) with no firewall installed at all (and Windows' off) and have the exact same problems.
I'll never be able to download Quicktime 7, on cue it cuts out just before download complete, every single time.
Sufficed to say, I've given up hope, pretty much.
I dare not call tech support. If anyone tells me to turn the modem off for 30 seconds, people may start dying.
Just wanted to let you know that the problem is unresolved, and ask if anyone stumbles upon an idea to give me a poke.

Tubusy, what lights display on the the modem when you lose the connection?
TBH, it sounds like a fault either with the modem, or the connection. Either way , you'll have to report the fault to NTL.

I think the problem is finally resolved.
At last managed to get through to NTL. The first guy was pretty useless, and said it was 'definately a [network] cable problem' to 'blow into the ports' and if that did not work 'ask for a new cable'. This didn't sound too convincing to me, and I'll have you know, my ports are perfectly clean! The cheek! I did however test it with a new cable, and this did not fix the problem.
I called again and spoke to someone else, who was a lot more helpful. Turns out that the modem never registered properly at their end, and they'd given me the wrong pin number (for the old set top box setup). This meant I'd been running on a temporary IP that is refreshed every 20 mins, breaking the connection. He sorted the problem out for me and got me a new pin.
My download speed has gone from 15k/s to about 83k/s and no more disconnections!
Thanks everyone for helping!
