Nanotechnology kills cancer cells

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4734507.stm

Looks like they are getting nearer to the Holy Grail of cancer cure.

That is a potentially major breakthrough. I lost a friend to cancer last year and have another going through chemo now (thankfully her prognosis is the best). It's horrible watching someone deteriorate through cancer so I hope this really is a breakthrough.

I really, really hope you're right, coggy. I've known far too many family and friends be affected by cancer.

Re: Nanotechnology kills cancer cells

Nano tech isnt just the key to curing disease, it could also be the key to our fossil fuel problems. It could even revolutionise the way we live e.g. school could be a 1 day thing where we get an injection of nanobots with all the info known to man, Cars could be constructed on the molecular level and self maintaining making them so perfect that repairs would never be needed.
The list is endless really, though like anything Im sure it has an equal ammount of negative uses.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if it is a real cure for cancer, fingers crossed

Re: Nanotechnology kills cancer cells

How about a cure for those annoying " any accidents or injuries " people in every town who harass you all the time.

You could program one to eat there clipboard as you walk by.

Ah but then you are into the grey area that Prince Charles is concerned about that this technology is not allowed OUT into the wild.I think it will have to be one of those technologies that are licenced. After all we are all concerned about the harm GM foods that are entering the food chain could cause. There have been numerous occasions where the release of certain flora and fauna into an enclosed ecosystem(Australia) have cause certain ecoligical disasters(rabbits in Australia).Bullfrogs and Cane toads being another.African bees being bred with plain old european bees and becoming the killer bees we hear so much about.

Technology on the molecular level has the potential to do great good in which case it may well have to be considered as a potential cause for damage.Someone will always turn to the dark side particularily the military mind.

Prince Charles seems to think Nano tec is going to turn every think into a grey mush. Good job he's not running the country!

Actually I think he may have presented legimate concerns rather poorly. However the gist of his concerns are something that needs to be discussed in a sensible manner.

Theoretically, if nanotech ran out of control this could happen. Unfortunately it seems that some people prefer to use a cautionary warning as a way to have another go at the Royal Family.

Nanotech does have amazing possibilities, but it also has risks. Ben Bova covers a lot of these in his "Grand Tour of the Solar System" novels which are excellent hard SF.

Re: Nanotechnology kills cancer cells

They could use a nano probe or two thousand to make them wear something which makes them look normal, and not out of a pantomine?
