disappearing webspace

Hi all,

On Friday I upgraded from dial-up to broadband*, and I've just noticed that our site on the NTL webspace has disappeared. We've kept the same username etc but we now get a "this page cannot be found" screen.

I've tried contacting NTL through the internet but this page:
http://www.ntl.com/home/contact/generic/customer.asp

then generates an error in Mozilla and IE, so I am not sure who to contact.

I'll try again from home this evening and perhaps call Technical Support or something then, but I was wondering if anyone else here has had the same problem?

Jon

* as balance, the engineer was due in the afternoon (12-6) and turned up at 2pm, he was polite and he did the job in half an hour and seemed to know what he was doing. Getting the thing to work with NTL email was another matter though - but that was because I had AVG anti-virus which it didn't like and so kept trying to dial-up when I pressed "Send and Receive".

Re: disappearing webspace

moving to email, webspace and proxy forum...

When you registered for broadband did you input your old dial up details, or were you given a new email address?

With regard to the email- in Outlook Express go to tools-> accounts-> mail-> double click the correct account, then "connections" and chose "always connect using local area connection" and ok... should stop it trying to dial

Initially, the installation didn't work. I went through the steps on the CD for connection etc and then at one point it said to contact Technical Support - which I did. They talked me through it and I ended up with a different email address, even though I told them I already had a dial-up account. I am currently using the old email address (which is working fine) and not the new one. I guess this is what's caused the trouble.

I can upload the site again (esp. now I am on broadband!) but I wouldn't want a new URL... I wonder if Technical Support can reinstate it?

thanks for that. It sounds like what I was doing, but until I deactivated the email part of AVG it kept trying to dial-up. I deactivated AVG and it's been working fine since.

I'd also like to mention, that the people I contacted on the broadband medic on-line help thingy were very helpful and polite as well.

Re: disappearing webspace

Tech support can reinstate the webspace and attach it to your broadband account

anything you have on there at the moment will be lost though... so make sure you have backups!
