Graphics Card Problems

3 Questions here:
Firstly, my graphics card is making a lot of noise, I located it to being the fan on the card and so this needs replacing. I want to contact the manufacturer first to see if they cover it but don't know who makes it as I know there are a lot of manufacturers who produce nvidia cards. So how do I find out? The card is:
Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti 4600
Secondly, if they won't repair/replace it, how do you remove the fan? There are plastic clips which are impossible to take out without snapping them?
Thirdly, is there a way to see how effective the fan is being? i.e. is there a temp monitor I can use, because if its doing its job and the manufacturer wont fix it, I'm happy to put up with the annoying fan for the sake of not wanting to risk breaking the card.
Cheers,
James

Re: Graphics Card Problems

Personally it is a old graphic card so the chances of a fix are rare, and it could be used as a excuse to upgrade by the sound of it your on AGP format and there is alot of cards going reasonable now which would seriously give you more power then a ti 4600.

As for the clips no idea mate, but for gpu temp, I wonder if a temp sensor from www.maplins.co.uk may do the trick?

Without you having the box unless its written on your GPU I cannot see you knowing who made that card, as it could be OCUK,BFG,Nvidia,Fred Elliot,Tony Blair, or anyone really.

to the site BTW.

Re: Graphics Card Problems

you could just try to fix the fan.Carefully remove the sticker there should be a little clip giving access to the bearing (either ball or sleave) just pop a small amount of grease on there.
Otherwise there should be screws holding the heatsink in place these can be removed and the whole unit replaced. There should be a model number on the card somewhere have a good search but as for manufactuers fixing it you have no chance

Re: Graphics Card Problems

There might be a long part number on the card somewhere (normally the bottom) that you can post here and we might be able to tell you which manufacturer made it.

Re: Graphics Card Problems

There are replacement heatsinks that fit many of those cards - check ot overclocking/mod sites for the correct model, as the fan is often designed in to the heatsink, making replacement impossible.

Also worth using a small paintbrush to clear fluff and debris, as a noisy fan can be due to snagging on acculated debris.

A Ti 4600 is still way better than some of todays "junk" cards, though a decent midrange would beat it and have DX9 hardware capabilities as well.
