Setting up Linux email client

HI all,

I am currently setting up a Linux client on my wireless network.

I am using Suse 9.2 and the standard Kmail client and I have setup the pop and smtp accounts as per my Windows environment. I can recieve email via the pop account, but when I try and send an email it gets stuck in the outbox.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Setting up Linux email client

Can you telnet to smtp.ntlworld.com 25?

If you get a connection to that it's something with the email client, as the networking is working and the server is there. Can you try an alternative client like Evolution or Mozilla Thunderbird as a test?

Re: Setting up Linux email client

Do you have the firewall enabled? If so go to YAST>Yast modules>Security>Firewall and reconfigure to allow SMTP(25).

Re: Setting up Linux email client

Thanks guys for your replies.... I had a look at the firewall, and it seems that is for people using the machine as an SMTP server, rather than the other way around..... I telneted onto smtp.ntlworld.com port 25 and that worked, so I installed Mozilla thunderbird which worked perfectly. So some problem with Kmail.... I think I will give up on that one and continue to use Mozilla Thunderbird.

Many thanks
