A new printer
My printer is suffering from an unknown error at the moment and I can't find anything in the Epson help relating to it.
As I've been thinking of getting a new colour printer, can anyone suggest a decent printer?
Only upto £100 and not an Epson. (I realise I'm not going to get an industrial quality printer.)
Are Lexmark printers any good?

which epson printer is it
i has same problem with my Stylus C42UX, i just removed the printer completly and then reinstalled it

Im having good results with my HP 3220, i think thats the model number. It was £79 from pc world, eariler in the year.
I think it has being replaced by now with the 3550 (£49).

I know your not supposed to buy from PC world... But... :p
If you've got a local store, Go there, and check there shelves where they have the stock that's bought back by people. They have loadsa stuff from Printers to anything. I got a canon S300 Printer, along with a Canon Scanner for £30.. Mint condition, except the box was open. And it came with a spare colour & Black Ink

Lexmark are very costly to run. Print performance are not bad. Go for the Canons. They offer good printing performances and are very economical to run.

IMHO, it all depends on the the quality your looking for, on my side I use an old epson 460, it does what I need.
If you do upgrade look at cartridge prices as well as printer costs.
You will be amazed at the difference in cost.

An old Epson Stylus Color 480. I might just try that.
Thing is, it runs out of ink very quickly which is why I was thinking of getting a new printer. Also it's extremely fussy over the glossy photo paper it takes. It doesn't even like the Epson brand paper

Useful information about Epson printers.
When they say they're out of ink they are *LYING THROUGH THEIR PRINTER PORTS!*
Which? Magazine did a test on these and found IIRC that at times they could get up to 30% more pages out of an "empty" cartridge!
When it says "empty", start the "replace cartridge" procedure, take the "empty" one out, switch the printer off, then back on again and re-install the same cartridge. (You may need to do some fancy work with the wall socket power switch to get the head in the right place to let you do this!)
You'll find it thinks you've put in a brand new cartridge and you can keep on printing merrily until it actually runs out of ink.
They say this is to stop people running the cartridges dry and thus damaging the print head, but I ran my Photo Stylus 750 for several months with a bone dry colour cartridge, then, when I wanted to use colour again, I just stuck in a head cleaner cart and kept running it either printing black pages (it uses the colour ink even when only printing black and even when in "black only" mode!) or running the cleaning cycle and within a very short time it was working fine and printing very pretty colour pics.
Also visit http://www.printcartridge.net/acatalog/ and buy some Epson compatible cartridges and a head cleaner cartridge. They're a damn sight cheaper (including some buy one, get one free, deals on Epson cartridges) but they work just as well.

I have found my Lexmark X75 (I know but it was free with the comp) really, REALLY expensive to run, even on refilled carts.
I have been looking at the cannon ones, they are a little more expensive to buy but the quality is suppose to be great and their ink tanks start at £3.00

Also expensive is HP.
My advice is whatever printer you are looking at, do a google on it with the word "problem" after it. This will show you the known issues and problems people have had with it...

Canon i550 for me. I am VERY please with it. Separate ink colour tanks at modest cost - AND the instructions are UNDERSTANDABLE. Print quality is very good for text and photos.

The Lexmark was sent to me in error as a free gift with my computer. I contacted Dell and they sent me the gift I wanted and told me to keep the printer. Luckily I sold the printer to a neighbour. Perhaps Dell can teach one or two things about customer services.
Anyway, if I was doing loads of printing I would probably go for the Canon i550 or even up to i850. Both printers look good with very good performances. Running cost is very low. However, I bought myself a i320 for a mere £45. It is adequate for my needs for the moment as I don't do much printing. I'll probably buy myself another printer sometime next year as their preformances and prices are getting better each year.

Just to follow up on mine and more previous posts.
Ink IS a big issue, as was stated about epson saying empty, its not, keep on running it at the sake of a nozzle clean e.t.c.... but
I can buy 3 x black and 3 x colour at the comp fair for £ 17.00, lasts for ever..lol... cheap printing IMHO
