Just bought a new laptop, will it work with my linksys?

			Hey Guys
Ive just bought this laptop: (seemed a good price and well spec'd and Acer are a good make)
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=93060
My question is I bought it for the Integrated IEEE 802.11g wireless LAN; Wi-Fi
and want to know will it work with my:
Linksys Etherfast Wireless Access Point + Cable/DSL Router With 4Port Switch No modem
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=51436
If yes will it be simple to set up?
Looking forward to your opinions, help and advice!
Thanks

Yes it will work, but only at 802.11b speeds as opposed to 802.11g. Not a problem really though.
Pretty easy to set up as well, but that depends on your level of technical knowhow i suppose.

			Yes.
As long as your router is setup to give out IP addresses (DHCP - it usually is by default) then just turn on the wireless on the laptop and it should detect the network and do everything automatically.

Just note that the router/access point you've quoted there is only 11mbps (the 11b standard) whereas your laptop is 54mbps (the 11g standard). So, the laptop will only work at a max of 11mbps. This won't be an issue for browsing the web but you may notice slow speeds if you're shifting files between computers over the network.

 Hope this helps.

Great so it should work no problems then?Well I set up my wired network of three PCs on router so Id say my techy knowledge was OK.
Do you think I got a good deal, Acer is pretty good isn't it?
 Thanks again!

yes it should, but as already pointed out, it will only run on 802.11b speeds, as the router does not support 802.11g.
It should be simple to set up - just switch on the wireless on the router, make sure that DHCP is anbles, and you have allowed for enough addresses - then fire up the laptop and away you go.

Acer are certainly making a name for themselves. Whether their kit turns out to be as reliable as other mainstream manufacturers remains to be seen.
I've not been impressed by laptops in general over the last couple of years, I loved the build quality of our IBM's here at work, but they've been having motherboard problems with all our T21's. (post T21's seem to be a lot better)

Batteries are the other problem, our previous generation Dell Latitude's had a near 100% failure rate on batteries after 2 years.

I currently have one of the newest Latitudes myself, which has behaved thus far, but as a whole I don't put much confidence in any laptop lasting more than 24-36 months without any hardware issue.

Watch the damn thing go up in smoke now

Yeah, I love Acer stuff too.... have used a variety of their products, and nothing has failed me yet (touch wood), so they get a big from me - and they're not expensive either!

I've also got an Acer laptop and I have nothing but praise for it, had it over a year now and it takes some abuse, My 10 month old son loves to kick it off and bash it whilst on the cbeebies website and its proved to be very durable.
That was a great price as well, AFAIK the Celeron-M chips are much better than the desktop variation as well, might want to invest in another 256 stick of ram though.

 | Same line of laptop as mine, but mine is the 2012LWMi, its the 1.5ghz Pentium-M and the 9700 only has 64mb of dedicated Vram although it runs Half-Life 2 like a dream still.
