Static IP address
Can anyone please tell me whether NTL will allow you to get a static IP address? I need to do some work from home and need one to get through the firewall at work. The person I spoke to at NTL didn't seem to know what I was talking about

Nope, not without paying for a business account.

I'd talk to your employer's IT department if I were you. The majority of domestic broadband services won't give you a static IP address. Your IT boys should be aware of this, and have the corporate VPN service set up to allow for it. We use IPsec and it works fine with NTL, dynamic IP and all.

Re: Static IP address
'Dial-in' to a VPN pool is the usual way of dealing with dynamic IPs, however if there's no VPN which is the implication here options are a bit limited.
A few services are quite happy to give statics though.

Amongst others.
Check http://www.adslguide.org.uk for more information on these and other DSL ISPs.
