There is no 'block' on stopping you, if you can't get it working, its your end.

Re: does ntl allow me to host a website from my computer?
What difficulties are you having?
Maybe somebody here could offer you some advice on how to solve them?
Might save you having to do too much "messing".....

Also probably worth noting that if people are accessing your site, and downloading content from it, that will count as part of your bandwidth allowance when the caps come into force.
< Please let's not let this topic wander into the realms of whether caps are good/bad/in/out there are plenty of threads for that >

Do you have any other firewalls on the PC (XP's one for example)?

Re: does ntl allow me to host a website from my computer?
Might be worth trying it with th XP firewall switched off..... I know you've opened the ports but that's sometimes not enough.
The problem may be being caused by the XP firewall not seeing your router as a trusted device and therefore not accepting the requests coming from it.
Are you hosting this from your main PC btw? As a rule you are better hosting from a seperate box which sits outside the DMZ of your router. If you're using your main PC it will be almost no time at all before it is compromised.....

Re: does ntl allow me to host a website from my computer?
Why are you doing this? In theory I suppose it is possible to run a sort of webserver but not very practical.
For a start your IP is dynamic (unless you pay business rate for a fixed one) so it might change today, tommorrow, next month. You just don't know so you wouldn't be able to point a web address to it either.
In any case your upload speed (i.e. download speed as would be seen by your visitors) is only about a tenth of your broadband d/l speed. Depending on what is on the site and how many people are going to access it at any one time means it could be very slow and it will all contribute towards your bandwidth usage allowance.
A proper full featured web hosting/domain package would be far better considering how ridiculously cheap it is these days. I use I-websolutions and i think they still have a special deal for cable forum nthellworld members (cheaper than a cheap night out - for the whole year's hosting costs ).

Re: does ntl allow me to host a website from my computer?
Do me a favour?
Edit your post to remove your IP addresses. Never a good idea to post them in an open forum.
I think it's the second one you want though, although that doesn't seem to work

Re: does ntl allow me to host a website from my computer?
ok then well i would use the ntl webspace but it is not very good as you cant use gci or asp or php and when you do upload pages half the time it doesnt update them when you just upload them. also if i were to use iss i may only put pages that need the cgi and asp on there as i could still load the site on the ntl server even though its pants

Re: does ntl allow me to host a website from my computer?
The problem I'm getting (when I try to ping/tracert) is that it cannot resolve the IP address to anything and therefore can't make a connection.
It sounds as though either a) the IP address is wrong, b) your router is still blocking incoming traffic c) I'm not doing it right
I know there are a couple of members here that host their own sites (from the privacy of their own homes) hopefully one of them will be along soon with some more advice, I'm really not sure what's going on. Sorry
