Static IP address problem ???

I am running XP Pro with Zonealarm, Apache 2.0.53 (Win32) server via NTL Broadband

As NTL is a dynamic ip address I am having to go via www.eurodns.com to convert to a static ip address.

Over the last few months I have been having problems losing connection on NTL, and my DNS update program be it DynSite or EuroDynDNS has not beem updating Eurodns with the correct ip address. Thus I have been off line for days at a time. I have had to go into Eurodns and manually modify the IP address, and wait for the IP address to propogate thro the web.

All time consuming and frustrating.

Now however I have lost total conectivity, when I try to acces my website all I now get is a widows error message 'Could not connect to remote server www.gb-online.co.uk'

PS - www.gb-online.co.uk is on my computer running under Apache.

I can run localhost, and my website works fine. Apache and PHP etc all can be accessed via localhost and are working.

I have disabled Zonealarm and I do not have Microsoft firewall installed, and still does not work.

http://checkip.dyndns.org/ it gives me my Current IP Address: 82.16.78.10

and then
http://www.stayinvisible.com/index.p...our_ip_nocache gives me

Proxy IP - 62.255.32.16 brhm-cache-8.server.ntli.net
Real IP - 82.16.78.10 cpc1-warw2-6-1-cust10.brhm.cable.ntl.com

Any advice or guidance of how I can get myself up and running again, which ip address to use, has windows got a problem, is there any testing software to use ??? HELP HELP PLZ

Re: Static IP address problem ???

Your site name is resolving to the proxy address. Sound like an issue with the dynamic DNS service(s) you are using. See if this one is any better.

I don't want to sound funny.

But that answer is similar to what Eurodns gave me, its not them its somebody else (ie me).

Is there any software that can fault find this sort of problem ???

Re: Static IP address problem ???

(forgot my manners!)

I don't think it is 'you'. I don't know enough about how these 'dynamic DNS' services work, but I do know that some badly-coded web sites assume 'your' IP address is actually the address of the proxy server that NTL force you to go through. It may be that your dynamic DNS service has the same problem, i.e. it is picking up the proxy address rather than your own. 'no-ip' is a well-known (and free) service which MAY not have the same problem. At least worth a try?

Re: Static IP address problem ???

But when I manually enter (into www.eurodns.com) the Real IP address, and wait for the propogation thro the net. It still does not work ???

Instead of 'Could not connect to remote server www.gb-online.co.uk' error message I am now getting the Microsoft 'download file' message.
