Re: sms on landline
Try sending a text message from your mobile to your NTL landline number.....

I think you are mistaking raistlin's reply with his signature (which admittedly is a little large)...

There was a relevant comment in my post, I'm not sure what will happen if you SMS your landline from a mobile.
With mine I get an automated system reading the SMS out to me, with your new phones you might get something different. I thought it was worth a try.
As for my signature, meh! I've made it a bit less obtrusive, maybe that will help you seperate it from my actual responses.

I tried it a little while ago - O2 mobile to NTL landline, and it worked fine. The generated speech can be quite funny.

Re: sms on landline
My dad is on NTL line and when I send HIM a text message it comes up on his home phone. (Which is a bt phone I think) - the next time I'm over there I'll get the model number and post it here.
edit - the other way of doing it (which I wouldn't reccomend) is by using an Amstrad emailer or emailer plus. Which can send/recieve text messaged - but at a VERY expensive rate.

Re: sms on landline
The BT system works as follows:
1) All BT phones can receive SMS as a voice message
2) Certain phones can send SMS via a special message centre number
3) To receive SMS as text to your phone you have to send a SMS first to "register" the number and subscribe to caller ID
4) All future SMS are receved as text and not voice
The NTL system can definately do (1). I guess the only way to find out if it can support the others is if you try to send a SMS via the message centre (and make sure you are subscribed to caller ID).

Re: sms on landline
My apologies to raistlin and anybody else I offended. I was drunk when I posted messages that night and cannot even remember posting them.... I only realised when I opened my email inbox.
