Re: evil packetloss

Going to need *somewhat* more information than that from you, there are hundreds of routers you could connect to.

Infact if by some miracle (excuse the sarcasm but hardly anyone actually bothers) you could fill in some of this: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/sh...ad.php?t=15305

and put the info into this thread that'd be rocking.

BTW this will probably get moved to the broadband section fairly soon.

Re: evil packetloss

1)What, specifically, is your issue?
since i upgraded to the free 2meg service its been ping hell, packetloss and bad pings to servers during game.but uploads and downloads are fine.

2) Do you have cable TV? If so, is there any reception degradation?
i don't have the TV i use a stand alone modem.

3) Have you contacted customer support about this problem? If so, what did they say?
everything seem'd to be ok download and upload speeds were fine/

4) What troubleshooting steps have you taken to resolve this problem? (aka: if you haven't tried to help yourself, why should *we* help you?)
tweaks,new leads,even a new ethernet card.

5 Who you are and what you have
im in UK,lancashire running winxp pro,my provider is NTL,useing onboard ethernet on a A7N8X-D mobo, firewall is zonealarm suite,

Looks like a level3 fault, judging by your test results

People don't spend all of their lives in here.

Nor do they spend all of their time here helping other people.

But - where people can help they generally do - for free, without any strings attached, and without asking anything in return.

I would guess that the reason you got little/no response was that there was nobody here that was able to help, if they had been able then I'm sure they would have.

Insulting the very people that you are asking for help from is unlikely to endear you to them, and is thus unlikely to get you any help at all (either now, or in the future).

Also, broadly tarring NTL Technical Support with the same bad brush is likely to make you no friends here. This forum is frequented by a lot of people from that team who are only to happy to help (in their free time, and of their own volition) as and where they can. The majority of members of this forum have nothing but respect for those people and won't appreciate the implication that they are all just as bad as each other.
Yes, NTL does have a pool of people in Tech Support who are not (or at least don't give the appearance of being) as helpful as we would like them to be - that doesn't mean that they are all like that.

In fact in recent months Cable Forum administration have been working hard with some very senior people at NTL to try to resolve some of the issues that we have been having with CS and Tech Support.

at least you were big enough to come back & apologise.

Problems like yours are very difficult.

The people on the phone can only see so much & once they have established you can browse & download, there isn't a lot else they can do.

There are a couple of people on here who may be able to help, but as Raistlin said, any help offered by NTL staff on here is entirely voluntary and they just can't help everyone.

In the meantime, all I can suggest is throttling back your upload speed, not ideal I know - and my apology if you have already tried that

Re: evil packetloss

You need to post those results with some spaces and line breaks in them - they are just an incomprehensible mass of letters and numbers atm.

BTW, Womble did indicate it might be a problem with level3's network - in which case there is nothing ntl could do anyway.

turn of name lookups, and run it against whatever game server you were talking about. 10 cycles or so (don't leave it running, not big, not clever).

Run it against a few NTL services. ( say - 62.253.162.194, 212.250.162.8, 62.253.162.201, 194.168.222.120 ).

Save output as text... paste into post.

Much easier to read than what you posted previously ( which as someone else said, just looked a mess ).

I think that was probably based on

http://www.broadbandreports.com/quality/nil/1736918

Much more testing would be required to say that was the case.
