Euro-MPs vote to scrap 48hr opt-out.

More Euro interference - an opt-out rule which allows EU workers to choose to put in more than 48 hours a week may come to an end after MEPs voted to scrap it.

Bunch of interfering *****

Hopefully the government will put their foot down and veto this but I'm not holding my breath.

More nanny state bullying - which is bad enough - by its not even by own government.

Whats wrong with letting people choose if they want to work more than 48 hours?

Re: Euro-MPs vote to scrap 48hr opt-out.

Trouble is, many firsm abuse it by making a condition of employment that you opt out, thus enabling them to force you to work obscene hours for no extra pay. The clause as it stands is worthless.

What needs introducing is a law making it illegal to compulsorily opt out an employee. The decision to opt out should be for the employee ONLY, not greedy slave-labour bosses.

Re: Euro-MPs vote to scrap 48hr opt-out.

Nice to see our hard-working MEPs making sure they never have to work more than 4.8 hours per week ....... oh sorry it's 48 I'm sure they'll manage to keep below those hours while they continually interfere with how this country operates and gradually erode all pretence of the United Kingdom governing itself

Re: Euro-MPs vote to scrap 48hr opt-out.

Don't tell them, but we only let MEPs play at having real power. They can vote for this all they like but it's the Council of Ministers that has to ratify it. Thank goodness national governments have retained at least a scrap of their sovreign authority ...

Re: Euro-MPs vote to scrap 48hr opt-out.

And as Paxman pointed out this evening...Labout MEPs voted in FAVOUR of the removal of our opt-out, whilst the Labour government was voting against it!
