Also Is it Monthly our just one off charge. And will there be any chance on getting a Samsung Box Upstairs? I Live in Belfast,NI.

Re: Second Set Box
if u got with sky an extra digi box is only £5 a month but if u get sky+ with multi room u are charges for the main subscription then an extra £10 for the digi box and the sky+ featurs hope this helps.

Re: Second Set Box
Hi,I'm a NTL tech in belfast & i can honestly tell you that the chances of getting a Samsung STB are NIL!Zilch,Nadda!!
We CANNOT get them anymore for love nor money.
They are all going to England & what we had is all we are going to get.
Sorry,you'll have to have PACE.

Re: Second Set Box
yes - they are an additional £15/month
one thing to point out is that if you have a PPV event it goes to the box it was booked on and not all of them! This has caused ugly scenes in my place before now
the only thing that has not stopped me from going over to sky and its far, far more sophisticated menus etc is the fact that you have to stump up for extra boxes whereas ntl supplies them and changes them if they go wrong. To me, this is the one and only thing that has any Kudos in the entire ntl debacle.
Saying that though - there is rarely a week goes by that I don't get to reboot something, usually one of the set top boxes, because it has frozen or ceased to function in some way

I don't think it's a rip off at all. ntl have to buy the box and pay for a contractor to install it for you. It takes them nearly a year just to break even on £15 a month. And believe it or not, the main ambition of ntl is to make money, not give freebies to all and sundry.

So I guess you have made some money of my one that has been in situ for 4+ years then.

No, I haven't...
ntl has - a little maybe. But i do believe four years ago that the rental was only £10 a month, and I know that the STB cost ntl £100 MORE then than they do now.
So yes, ntl may be making some money off you - (objective achieved with one customer at least... ), but probably not as much as you think.

Re: Second Set Box
No the Digital STB has always cost £15 a month to rent, it was the biggest shock to my bill when I went digital, the rest stayed much the same but the second STB cost went from £5 to £15 overnight. Nobody mentioned that to me when I asked about the upgrade.
I apologise for refering to "you" as NTL.

Sorry, but ntl definitely used to charge £10per month for a second digi box a few of years ago. Your jump of £5 to £15 is rather irrelevant as that was an upgarde for ana to digi.

Yeh but no but the rest of the costs of moving analog to digi were in the region of single £'s, so when I got my first digi bill and found it was about £14 higher not £4 higher I was a little miffed that it had not been pointed out to my by the CSR that my second box would go up in price by £10 IYSWIM.
The CSR was in possesion of this fact and could see I had two STBs on my account and needed to pass this on to the install team to ensure they brought two boxes with them, but did not advise me that this upgrade would add 20% to my cable bill due to the change in price of the second STB.
Neither the NTL model where you cannot purchase your hardware, or the Sky one where maintainance can be a problem is an optimal, but considering some kind of ongoing loyalty discount on things like second STBs would be a good way to keep customers sweet (which I know takes us back to the point that NTL is a commercial org - to make money - etc) but, so are Orange and they are busy repaying their prepay etc.
