Is my monitor about to die?
Hiya all,
While playing some music today on my aging Siemens 17inch monitor (crt) I noticed that it has a wobble, near the left side of it, I have moved anything magnetic away from it all phones, wires, checked leads, rebooted pc everything.
Now could this be my pc's as it is only 48hours old here ( monitor is from older pc ) my pc runs a Ati x700pro pci-e visual card, and my resoultion I run on desktop is 1024 by 768 at 85hz refresh rate ( lowered this to 60hz and still this wobble remains)
If it is broken I do not have much cash and would need a replacement, anyone know where I can get a tft as I would love one of these which can handle the latest in todays games? 17inch would be a nice size.
Thanks in advance. All replies will be wobbly read.

Re: Is my monitor about to die?

Re: Is my monitor about to die?
degaussing probably won't stop any wobble, i had this a few months ago at a lan party seemed to be caused by electrical interference.

First make sure all yoru speakers are away from the screen, even the tower could be causing this,if none of these try setting a higher refresh rate, ive seen this causes by other monitors, magnetic sources ie speakers and has bifta says some other electrical device in close proximity creating interference
Most crt screens degause when there switched on so its always a good idea to switch off when not in use

Re: Is my monitor about to die?
Well this wobble went as I pushed its refresh rate to 120hz at 1024 by 768, anything lower and it wobbles like hell. 120hz sounds like I am pushing it though.

I've never heard of a monitor being able to get to 120hz @ 1024x768 before

Re: Is my monitor about to die?
The power supply in my Mums PC makes any CRT monitor wobble.
It's some real cheapo psu in her PC.
Could be that causing it.
Doesn't affect her new TFT tho!!!

Most decent ones can, you'll be hard pressed to find a 21" that can't.

Sorta the same on my old monitor, my speakers are shielded, but the transformer built inside it used to cause the right side to wobble slightly. I had to have the speakers far apart so it would stop, but still, even 1-2 inches away it would effect it

Re: Is my monitor about to die?
Well gf said I can have £200 for a flat panel, so I had some fun I feel screenshots may do this justice.
I will add I am running on a X700 pro PCi-E
I am using a Fujistu Siemens 17inch crt monitor.
I am at 1024 by 768 at get this 200hz.
And not a flicker or whine ( it normally whines after 10mins )
