Best remote access software?

I've been using XP's remote assistance to get some things done on my Dad's PC for him.

It's pretty limited and slow though.

Out of the alternatives, which one's does anyone recommend?

Is it just better to use Remote desktop connection which I don't really like?

Cheers.

Re: Best remote access software?

Do a search on Google for tightvnc. This is free and works pretty well.

Re: Best remote access software?

I have used Tight VNC with no problems, Real VNC also comes highly recommended from some people

Re: Best remote access software?

used tightvnc at first but the cpu load was too high. Try ultravnc with the video driver they supply(w2k & XP). very quick and dead easy to setup

Re: Best remote access software?

What internet connection speeds do you both have?

I've been using Remote Assistance between myself and my Brother-in-law without any speed problems.

Re: Best remote access software?

Both have 2mbps. Me through NTL, him through BT Voyager modem which is soon to be swapped over for all in one Belkin Wireless gear.

That may show some improvement?

Re: Best remote access software?

Heh, I remember when we used to have to use PC Anywhere over a 56k modem in my first job to help out with certain users that were beyond normal help... that was a challenge - click..... wait..... click..... wait..... click..... wait..... click..... wait..... click..... wait..... click..... wait..... click..... wait..... click..... wait.....

I have used Pc Anywhere but it costs (luckly I did not have to pay for it that time). At least with Ultra VNC its free.
