Re: Nvidia 6600GT any good?
The 6600GT Dual GPU card would be a better bargin. It's faster than a 6800 Ultra on most games, and gets a score of 14,000 on 3DMark03. Only problem is you need a specific motheroard for it to work (which it's bundled with the card and a wireless LAN card, at approx £300 on OcUK) and if any games don't support SLI it will only use the one GPU (acting as a standard 6600GT, but for some reason it out-performs a standard 6600GT in single GPU mode).
I'm still thinking of getting the 6600GT Dual GPU, but also the 6800 Ultra has caught my eye

An extra £25 on top of his £150 will get him a standard X800 if he shops around.

This is an excellent idea a friend has the 3D1 the kit is gigabyte(ive been happy with giabyte stuff ive used), with a 3200 and he is very happy with it,but if you can afford the ultra it will be a better single card and if you buy a sli enabled one you can always add another once lottery is won

Re: Nvidia 6600GT any good?
If you are going to go high end, might aswell wait for the new Radeon R520. The performance looks like its going to destroy any of the current top end cards.

Re: Nvidia 6600GT any good?
I sold my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro to Gareth and bought a 6600GT to get me on to PCI Express. Too be honest there really isn't much in it. Both are very good mid range cards.

£150+à ƒÆ’‚£25 is not less than £150..
Actually, the X800 would be a better option if that £150 limit is not a hard limit, but if the OP cannot afford to go a bit higher, then the 6600GT is a perfectly capable card.

You can also pick up a 6800 for £159, surely a far better bet.

blimey, where? the lowest i found was £180...
i see what you mean, theres a decent performance jump for not a lot more cash, but for <£150 i still think the 6600GT is the best bet.
