My system drive is showing up as removable in the system tray.

I had a little trouble getting my system to recognise my Western Digital Raptor.

It was showing up in BIOS and Windows would format it at setup but wouldn't go any further. When it rebooted to carry out the next stage it would just go back to checking system requirements.

So, I set XP up on another drive and got Windows to see it.

I then installed Windows on the Raptor.

However, as the title says, Windows now thinks it's a removable drive.

Any way of sorting this out?

Cheers.

Re: My system drive is showing up as removable in the system tray.

I had similar problems with a WD drive in my sisters PC yesterday.

I had tried and failed to install XP on it after creating either a FAT32 or NTFS partition with the XP setup CD.

When I put it in my PC I had the same trouble as you i.e. Windows thinking it was a removable drive.

I nearly gave up but tried one last attempt at installing XP on it.
This time I used Acronis to delete the existing partition and create a new one formatted as NTFS.

XP installed fine.

I'm not sure if the XP disc manager/XP setup was seeing the drive wrong and not partitioning or formatting it properly.....Or the drive is on it's way out but it's working fine at the moment.

It's not causing any problems, I'm just a perfectionist.

The benches are good, 50mb/s.

Then is there any point? You might as well just leave it! As the old addage goes, if it aint broke, dont fix. Its just a peculiarity and nothing to worry about i wouldnt have thought.

Is there not a "Removable" check box in system properties for the drive which you can uncheck?
