what does norton ghost do?

sorry if i am being dumb....

i have a new computer and i want to basically have all the files/programmes i have on my old computer onto this new one, rather then individually installing all programmes again and moving files from cd-rs that i have burned, is it possible to image the whole thing...how would i go on about doing this, if its possible..

Re: what does norton ghost do?

Yes it is possible to use ghost to image the old computer.

BUT

Your new computer is very unlikely to have the same hardware in it as the old one. Ghost will have imaged the old system with the old hardware installed.

When you put your nice new ghost image on the new computer it will pick up all the 'new' hardware in your new computer.

Now windows COULD pick up all the new hardware properly - but you'd still have all the drivers for the old hardware as well.

I would say (even tho it is a hassle) reinstall your operating system / software on your new computer.

What operating system is it by the way?

One other thing ghost allows you to do, by creating an image is you archive everything.I would not use ghost image on new pc,but i would consider taking an image, then if theres something you forgot to save elsewhere you can easily extract said files from within your ghost image.
