Microsoft Word - Columns

Ok, another question, is it possible to divide words in a textbox into columns? because whenever i move the cursor into the textbox, i can't divide into columns, and i can when i'm not in the text box (yeah, newspaper, "everything's supposed to be in columns inside a story" my teacher is a bummer)

Short answer is "No". Why are you using text boxes?

Re: Microsoft Word - Columns

You could try FORMAT, COLUMNS and select the desired number you want. This could cause havoc with any current formating though!!

Lightbulb Re: Microsoft Word - Columns

You should set your columns before you start, then as you type in your article it will fit to column size. MS word should offer a choice of style (3 HEADER STYLES PLUS NORMAL). Not the best package for this type of thing bur it should suffice.

Re: Microsoft Word - Columns

This is probably a daft idea but.....

if max's idea above doesn't work you could try creating smaller text boxes inside your main one. A bit like this:

Re: Microsoft Word - Columns

yeah....this is gonna be hell...textboxes because it's supposed to look like a "newspaper" and i don't know! i hated this project to begin with! .....well then, if that's the case, is it possible to have a different amount of columns for different parts of the page? like persay...one clomun around the top for the title and banner, and then allow one column down the left side the whole way down for the side panel that's always in the newspapers, and then many columns for the story (cause inside the story, the type is divided into columns) and allow one on the right so that pictures can be put in, then drop it back down to two columns so that the left one can continue down and then like, a divider line or something like that can be put in (i use wordart for that) to divide the main story from the rest of the paper, and so on and so forth down the line, and if i havne't confused the hell out of everyone, please try to understand what i'm getting at ^.^ thank you

Re: Microsoft Word - Columns

Obviously you would want to format the text boxes so as to remove the border lines but that should work ok.

Re: Microsoft Word - Columns

Right Click on the edge of the box and select "Format Text Box".

Now go to the "Line > Colour" option and select "No Line"

Attached Files Columns Demo.doc (19.0 KB, 1 views)

I liked that idea!! You could also try looking for something useful in template form on http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/te...s/default.aspx
as they mave have something you can use

Re: Microsoft Word - Columns

Or you can use section breaks to specify the parts of the document that should use columns....

Click the backwards P to see the breaks and other formatting.

Awwwww I've spent many an evening toiling over Word

I tend to write the document, then make a copy, then start on the formatting. It's much easier to apply formatting to text that is already there - Word is less likely to go off and do its own thing, which it often does <sigh>
