Can I watch and record cable television on my computer

Apologies if this is answered elsewhere, I've tried a search but can't find what I'm looking for.

I've recently bought a new desktop which comes with a television card. What I'm wondering is can I someway link up to my Cabletel stations and record them to DVD, or am I stuck with BBC/ITV etc?

If someone could even direct me to where this is answered I'd be very grateful.

Re: Can I watch and record cable television on my computer

I seem to recall that the only output available from the STB is a Scart output. If your Video card will enable you to connect the Scart on the STB to the PC then it should be possible.

Not sure if there's another way of doing it or not.....

simple answer to this is yes, does your tv card have composite in?? it should do,buy a scart to composite and audio cable plug video into card and sound into either card or line in using a stereo phono to 3.5 mm stearo headphone jack adapter, then using pvr software i imagine you got with the card away you go lol lolI do it this way with scart out from a sky box

same here but i use s-video into the tv card does the same job , just beware of file sizes , they can get rather large if you are not careful

Re: Can I watch and record cable television on my computer

yup, as has been said, you are only really limited by the available inputs into the card - mine will take RF, svideo or composite, which is handy, as I have a dvd player & vhs recorder plugged in as well as the cable TV.

When you connect the cable tv feed, your TV card will have a setup routine which will tune in the signal - bear in mind that the cable programs will appear as only one 'channel', you will still have to use the cable box remote control to switch between your subscribed programs.

- let us know how you get on

You can spend more money and get hardware that will give you a digital cable tuner as well as your analogue tuner, but at the moment you're stuck with, as said above, composite or svideo-in, and you'll only be able to watch what the main box is watching.

You can get scart to (comp/svideo)+audio cables.
