For the audio out, you need to get a scart lead which also has the 2 phono leads as well.

Have a look in this thread for where to get them from.

Re: new samsung box

Or you can buy a scart adapter, I know the PS2 has one, if you have a PS.

Re: new samsung box

The PS adapter will not work as it is an input connection, i.e it is for sound to be input to something not to take sound out of something. I had a samsung fitted on Friday and was also dissappointed to see no phono jacks, however this solved with a scart to scart with audio break out or by using a junction box that splits the sound and picture. As I don't use my VCR anymore I routed the audio from the VCR connection on the STB.
Hope this helps.

I can answer that one for you. The decision was made to drop the phono jacks in order to keep costs down - only a minority of people actually used the facility, so it wasn't deemed worth keeping. Your options are to either go out and buy a SCART to SCART with phono breakouts (no more than a tenner from Maplin), or to try phoning ntl to see if they'll give you one.

Re: new samsung box

Hi,
When I had my Samsung box installed (replacing the old defective PAce one) I had everything hooked up and sound through the surround sound system, so the engineer replaced the existing scart cable with a new one which had a couple of audio connections 'handing out the side' (red & white). When I commented about it, he said that all you have to do is ask for the newer cable as they are/were ware of the short coming with the new boxes and had made provision for this with these new scart cables.
If you need one, simply phone Customer Services and request one ! As I understand it, they should send you one asap.
Hope this helps.
