Stories like this really cheer you up don't they, personally I think he not have gotten a penny since he should nto have been there in the first place.

Surely money like this could be put to more WORTHY causes in any case, not freeloading idiots that screw the system for all its worth.

I don't know how they qualifies, as he didn't remove himself from the gene pool... He could still produce offspring?

Although when the American Humane Society are thrrough with him, I don't think he will!

Re: Trespasser wins payout of £567,00 0

I would like to point out that at the time of of the original incident the person concerned was 9 years old...At the time he was too young to be prosecuted and indeed the law would regard him as being a victim AT THAT TIME because no 9 year old should be able to obtain such easy access to a site. The company were negligent.. and any child of 9 is deemed as not having the ability to view matters as an adult.

What ever else has happened in the interim has no bearing on the case.

I have to say that when I first read this story I thought the same as everyone else. That is until I reread it and noted how old he was when the accident occured.

However I do think that perhaps the sum is a tad over the top when other people don't get similar treatment for similar occurences...It does seem unfair that other victims of negligence or crime don't recieve similar sums.

That was my point (though not as eloquently put). I'm still keeping out though, honest I'll just watch from a safe distance

Re: Trespasser wins payout of £567,00 0

Well can the innocent really win?

If you put up barbed wire/razor wire and a good fence, some parent is going to complain about it, I guess the council will then come along and make you take it down. The very next day some kid will walk onto your property climb up on your roof, fall and sue you for not making your property criminal proof.

Lets get it straight then, you have the choice of a claim from the thief/ trespasser injuring himself on your fence whilst gaining entry, or making a claim from injuring himself if he's successful at getting in.

Which is it to be!

His parents are legally responsible for him then, surely. But then, they don't seem to be responsible adults do they?

And I would like to point out that at the age of 9 I was not out of sight of either my parents or a responsible adult. Perhaps he should have sued his parents (when they are released) and take away the money they made from their coke dealing?

9 years old... can't be expected to be responsible? Then he shouldn't be out on his own.

Jeeez, whatever next? "He ran out in front of a car, so the driver was negligent in knocking him over"?

He should get nothing.

Re: Trespasser wins payout of £567,00 0

The problem is that nobody wants to put their hands up and take the blame anymore. Not just in this case, but whenever anything goes wrong. As soon as anyone is injured, or inconvenienced, or have their feelings hurt, they are up in arms and looking to pass the buck, hopefully with a fat compensation cheque in reply. Wouldn't it be lovely if people could learn to say "It was my own fault, I was in the wrong".
