Postal price increases soon
Remember that some postal prices go up on Thursday, 7th April.
http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/c...ediaId=9300081
In particular note that the price of a First Class stamp rises from 28p to 30p so stock up on those '1st' stamps now before they run out. They're still valid after 7th April so you'll make an instant 7% gain.

Re: Postal price increases soon
Don't know if it interests anyone but franked mail gets a 1p discount on a first class mail. Better than nothing.
I think you can get franking machines free from Neopost now. You pay £50 quid and get a machine with a £50 credit, and then you can top it up from down your phoneline.

Unfortunately (in this country at least) the more you pay, the more you get shafted

Re: Postal price increases soon
So how do they know when you've bought the stamps. People could go and buy batches of the things and just post at the cheaper rate for ages.
I don't get it.

That's the way to do it, but make sure you get stamps with 1st on them, not 28p.
Don't whatever you do cover the stamp with Prittstick to make sure it is stuck down as the sticky stuff should be on the back. If it's on the front the franking stamp soon rubs off.

Unfortunately it's only free for the first month or so, then you have to pay rental.

I had the same thing happen - my mother bought an advent calendar for her grandson last xmas, but forgot to put a stamp on it. The problem was that the Royal Mail mislaid the envelope for several weeks, then eventually informed us we had a parcel requiring payment of the postage cost (about 60p) as well as their admin fee (£1). The advent calendar itself only cost £1.50 to buy, but we ended up paying more than that in total for an advent calendar that we'll have to wait till next year to use
