Yep this has been an outstanding and overwhelming response to a crisis.

I'm sure there is a lot of long term redevelopment issues to be resolved, but it does appear that the charities are satisfied that, at least in the short term, everything necessary from a humanitarian point of view has been provided.

I've heard that some who have made donations, have been contacted asking if their funds can be diverted to other causes

If you donate to one cause, they must ask your permission if they would like the money to go to a different cause.
As the Tsunami fund has recieved more than it needs, there is a nice excess that could help in many other crisies.

What will they do then? Come asking for more aid for the tsunami victims? And people will think 'but I gave already'.

Keep the funds for what they were collected for. If they need more elsewhere, then I guess they'll have to appeal for that.
