Important: Tsunami Donations

Yep this has been an outstanding and overwhelming response to a crisis.

I'm sure there is a lot of long term redevelopment issues to be resolved, but it does appear that the charities are satisfied that, at least in the short term, everything necessary from a humanitarian point of view has been provided.

I've heard that some who have made donations, have been contacted asking if their funds can be diverted to other causes

If you donate to one cause, they must ask your permission if they would like the money to go to a different cause.
As the Tsunami fund has recieved more than it needs, there is a nice excess that could help in many other crisies.

But at the time it was projected that these funds would be used not just in the first few months after the event, but for years to come.
If they start spending it all on other things, then in a few years time it will all be gone!

What will they do then? Come asking for more aid for the tsunami victims? And people will think 'but I gave already'.

Keep the funds for what they were collected for. If they need more elsewhere, then I guess they'll have to appeal for that.
