The screenshot you gave is out-of-date, I sugest you try using a different proxy as I have told everyone else who came to me with screenshots of popup box's, the NTL website has been updated, and will accept a order for TV only with no telephone.

I took a nice screenshot aswell for you to see, I will get around to contacting NTL myself to cancel telephone, but I have better things to do atm.

Re: NTL unbundle digital from Telco

I'm still getting information saying.

'Our Digital TV services are bundled with our great Telephone service. Please also choose a telephone package.'

Re: NTL unbundle digital from Telco

Going through different proxies and even a different provider still gets me to a page with a great big disclaimer on the bottom saying.

*Price excludes your telephone line rental which must be purchased with your TV package.

Re: NTL unbundle digital from Telco

I currently work all 3 of the current systems, have been working there for 4 and 1/2 years and I haven't heard any communications that the telco lines have been unbundled from the digital. I know of sales offers where new customers pay a reduced price of £19.50 for the family pack for a year but then reverts to the normal price of £29.00 or new Broadband customers get free line rental for a year again reverting to the normal price of £9.50. I await to see any developments on this front

Please try ordering NTL DTV using any of the links that I posted earlier in the thread using any proxy of your choice and see if you get a message saying that you must have a telephone line as well before you get to the order input page. For your convenience I will copy the post here
Quote:
If you search for NTL in Google you will get a set of sponsored links down the right hand side. Use any of these and you will always get a page coming up before you get to an option to order that states
Quote:
The TV price is exclusive of your £9.50 telephone line rental which comes with your TV package.
You get exactly the same message if you try through www.ntl.com , www.ntlworld.com , www.askntl.com , www.ntlhome.com , etc.

Re: NTL unbundle digital from Telco

Have to agree with Debsy on this one.

While not working there anymore I was chatting to one of the current trainers today and asked them about this. They hadn't heard anything about unbundling the Telco service and were very, very doubtful this would happen in the short term, if ever.

Re: NTL unbundle digital from Telco

This is one of those stupid threads where people who know nothing will argue black is white with people who know the facts.

Telephone has NOT been unbundled. The ntl website makes it 100% clear in huge letters that the prices EXCLUDE line rental which MUST be taken with your TV package.

I don't care what anyone thinks they've seen or what they think they've done. Telephone has NOT been unbundled, only the way the price is quoted has changed, as I have now explained four times in this thread alone.

Those of you who want to start bleating to the ASA or anyone else...good luck. You'll get told where to get off, I can 100% guarantee it.

I, like Debs, am in a position to know. If it happens, I will tell you, but at the moment it hasn't and is not likely to, if you can't accept that, tough I am afraid, as you are wrong.

Re: NTL unbundle digital from Telco

ok scrotnig, explain why ntl have updated the website and removed the popup message that forces you into telephone packedge.

now explain why it goes to the "enter your direct debit details" and it still says £10.00 in the corner, ntl cannot bump this up by another £9, thats almost doubleing the cost, and if told something costs £10p/m it costs £10p/m!!!!, if someone where to sign up to ntl under the assumption that it costs £10 a month, and then they were billed for almost double there could be a very strong case with - as you said, the ASA, but then I wont bother to explain to you why that is wrong as im "one of those people who knows nothing", humm.

They haven't.

I suggest you get Javascript enabled on your browser.

I have just tried to order a TV pack without phone and received this popup message:

"You must order a Telephone package before you can order a Digital television package. You will now be redirected to the Telephone Services page."

I will repeat for the FIFTH time, telephone services have NOT been unbundled from TV.

Re: NTL unbundle digital from Telco

I'd suggest if NTL were falsly advertising then go to trading standards rather than the limp/useless ASA.

I've just been to the site and it clearly states:-

"*Price excludes your telephone line rental which must be purchased with your TV package."

good luck with your complaint!
