Help and Advice wanted

I was just woundering if anyone could give me any help - my dad had just recently bought himself a pc and wanted to go on line asap. As he was already on NTL with his phone and TV package we thought it best that he sticks to what he knows!!!
I have been on to NTL's customer service about 20 times for their help. They have gone through all the settings, checked the modem, drivers etc but still we are getting the error message. 'Could not connect to a remote computer' just woundered if anyone else had experienced this and what can I do to fix this problem. I have tried everything.

Re: Help and Advice wanted

Just in case - to get to the command prompt - goto the Start menu, select Run and in the box that pops up type cmd.

Then type ipconfig and hit return - you should get something like the following...

C:\Documents and Settings\TheBlueRaja>ipconfig

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

Although your IP address will be different.

When you tell us what it is, dont put the full IP address for security reasons like i have above - just put 10.80.x.x for example...

Re: Help and Advice wanted

Thanks for the advice - my Dad who lives about 100 miles away is not in at the moment, will ring and get him to give me the details later.

Once I get the info you require, I'll come back to you.

Many thanks again
Tara

Hi - I experienced the exact same problem REPEATEDLY over FIVE months last year, then cancelled the contract with NTL because of its failure to provide a consistent and satisfactory service. They have continued to bill monthly todate, despite numerous letters, faxes and telephone calls to them, they've passed the matter over to debt collectors. I am not paying them and intend seeing NTL in court - your problem is not the only one of that type - there are numerous complaints on various sites. I am afraid you will continue to have that problem as I had. I am very sorry I can't help you!
