Re: NTL unbundle digital from Telco
Even if it lets you order it, that does not mean NTL will honour it - they may ring you up and tell you you have to have a telephone line as well!

Re: NTL unbundle digital from Telco
There has been no national unbundling exercise, all that's happened is that the company started advertising the TV price seperately. This is because Sky sales people wouldn't stop telling customers their TV package was £10 cheaper than ntl's when it isn't.

Well, it goes all the way through to the enter your direct debit details page without mentioning the word telephone, and it only costs £10 a month, whereas previsiouly it would popup with a box say "click ok to goto the telephone page and select a packedge" after you pressed procede on the confimation page.

Somthing else I found interesting was that there is now a "mid pack" aswell as family pack and base pack. See: http://www.home.ntl.com/icat/tvpackages
|
there must have been an error on the page, as i've tried that several times, and i always get a pop-up telling me to get a telephone service.
the Mid-Pack is analogue only. more details of the analogue packs are here:
http://www.home.ntl.com/icat/analoguepack and the prices include phone line.
ntl only actively market the base and family pack, although you can get a Mid-Tier package, there are details of this pack on Help & Services within ntl interactive.

Try a different proxy, as there is several people suggesting that they still see the pop up box there must be some weird area issue or something. No, there was no error on the page!, try using a different ntl cache as a test, or even better try a compleatly ntl independant proxy.
Some people just dont belive what they carnt see for themselfs , there is a person claiming to have ordered tv without teleco on digitalspy atm:
http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/...35&postcount=1
I have tryed the ntl website on 3 different pc's and all of them allow me to get to the enter your credit card details page with only digital tv.

Yes, but that still does not mean NTL would actually let you have it!

yeah, i'm pretty certain that you will still be paying FULL digital price, whether that's £19.50 for base, or £29 for family. there is no reduction in price for not having a phone line.

I saw on a website once that Elvis is still alive.
Saying that, I'm interested to see what happens when you call them.

Well, I've been on to the website and got the order form - on the telephone selection it said:
TELEPHONE
Don't miss great value telephone from only £9.50 per month!

NOT mandatory, and when I didn;t select it, it took me directly to the Summary showing TV Family Pack at £19.99.
Conclusive proof at last!

The only conclusive proof will be after you've ordered it & got just DTV & no phone line.

Re: NTL unbundle digital from Telco
Well, I can tell anyone interested that in ex-Cable & Wireless regions, there is NO facility for the billing to be done this way.
Like I said, much as I'd be in favour of such a move, it hasn't happened. Only the way the pricing is advertised has changed, as I mentioned earlier.

Really? The fact it is now published for all to see, you can bet the ASA will be merciless if ntl are telling porkies. The order line is closed until 0900 tomorrow. I'll do it then, or raise a formal complaint for misleading advertising to the ASA. Either way, it STILL backs up what I was originally told on the phone in January.
