Angry Caller Display on Philips Kala 300

I have just moved from BT to NTL and the Caller Display on my Philips Kala 300 DECT phones doesn't work. It worked fine on BT. NTL say that it is enabled on the switch but the phone must be incompatible. Can this be true? It's not as if Philips are some two-bit Chinese manufacturer no-one has ever heard of. Are they feeding me a load of porkies? Should I demand a visit by a technician?
Does anyone have a Philips DECT phone with a working Caller Display on NTL? If it makes any difference, I live in Bracknell (postcode begins RG12)

Cheers.

You know it's not true as the phone worked fine before-that's just ntl CS-BS I'm afraid.

Clearly they are.....

You need to check with ntl whether Caller I.D is available in your area 1st, as a lot of ntl areas can't get it.

If CLI worked on that phone on a BT line before, then it's clearly compatible-whether Bracknell as an ntl area offers CLI is another matter I'm afraid.

We have plenty of 1st rate ntl associates that post here, so I'm sure they'll pop in & ask you to PM them your postcode so that they can check.

to the site too!

I expect the problem is that Bracknell is served by Reading switch which is a Nortel DMS 100, being North American it uses BELLCORE standards rather than european standards. Some Phones can handle both some can't. That's assuming Caller display is available in Bracknell anyway. It's a bit of a lottery depending on which franchise you live in I'm afraid. Welcome to Ntl service

Vorix, did you have to change the country setting for Caller display?
Perversely enough your original setting would have worked in some Ntl areas, depends what type of switch was fitted. Some are the same as BT use.

Re: Caller Display on Philips Kala 300

I changed the setting on the phone from '2' to '1'. In the manual, it's under the section 'Changing Caller Identification type'. It doesn't go into any further detail on what the 2 settings correspond to. It just says:

"The Caller Identification service (Name and Number) is available subject to a subscription to your operator (according to availability). (Country dependent)"

Re: Caller Display on Philips Kala 300

I have just moved to an NTL area (RG40) and have been told I can have Caller ID, except it doesn't work on my phone. Anyone know how to reset a Philips Xalio 200 - no idea which box I packed the manual! [Got it to work! - went to Philips website and downloaded manual ]

Also I have taken NTL's answer service -1571 - when I had this on BT it rang interminnently if I had a message - it doesn't do this with NTL but is supposed to - could it be the phone? If so is there a list of phones on the forum that are NTL compatible?

I did check for 1571, but couldn't find anything - sorry if I missed and posted a duplicate query
